And on another note. People used to question about Chris Simms' Escalade all the time. I thought that was very stupid. Daddy is loaded and probably bought his son an Escalade for HS graduation. That was never suspicious to me.
On the other hand... does anyone remember Earl Morris who was in Cavan's '01 recruiting class? He was a highschool teammate of Sloan Thomas of UT. Earl used to tell me all the time about Sloan's Navigator given to him by UT and how lots of the players there had cars for playing football. He also always used to [deleted] about Cedric Benson being overrated, which was a bit funny.
Take that for what it is worth.

Rumors were in Longview, and east Texas that Earl Campbell's mom got
new housing accomodations near Tyler, and a new Cadillac about the
same time an SMU coach was caught paying $5 for a BIG HIT punt return
tackle.
That was while he was running up, and down SWC, not NFL playing
fields.

whatever happened to ol' cedric?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Ohhhhh don't get me started. You really, really don't want to get me started. There is such a double standard going on in the world of college athletics. It makes me sick. We all know it. If anyone had the means and where-with-all to make a documentary about it I think it would do very, very well. How about a book?
Hey kevin Blakstone, you want to see an embarassment....now this whole double standard thing is a real embarassment. Of course your are too busy writing about SMU's alums and students being an embarassment to write about this.

With that said I would like to change the name of my thread to:
"It sucks that every team in the NCAA gets away with paying players, but they busted us, gave us the death penalty, set our program back 30 years, and now everyone still pays players but we can't bc of our past."
Amen. I totally agree.
The media have no desire to investigate major programs. Would p*ss of too many readers.
Blackistone's column today says as much. To paraphrase, 'Little private schools got no business trying to win all this money and recognition.'

Second, I'm not naive enough to think that there aren't improprieties going on at UT. However, until concrete evidence surfaces, I assume that any wrongdoings are prett minor and pretty typical. There's many people on here that seem to think they can absolutely prove someting they can't.[/quote]
The media simply will not investigate a Texas or an OU or a ND as thoroughly as they would an SMU.
So I the problem is, with the double standard, the chances of getting the "proof" you demand is slim.
Picture an SMU recruit saying he chose the Mustangs because they keep your pockets full of money.
Picture a couple of SMU starters investigated for felony assault. Think Bennett would get away with saying, 'we'll handle this internally'?

Mr. Pony...how right you are. The thing is, the NCAA prefers to look away when it comes to its cash cows. This will not stop unless some outside intity becomes concerned enough to take an objective look into things. And don't you know the roadblocks that will come up. If someone were to take on this project I have a feeling it would be like peeling an Onion. Layer after layer after layer. You think that SMU's pay for play was entrenched. The BCS system bring a whole new definition to entrenched. When there is no encentive to stop something, after a while it becomes habit. That is what is now occurring in big time college athletics. They don't know what is right or wrong anymore, they just know that they can make some money the more they do it.
