Until, until, until this, until that. HORSESH*T.

Who does the DMN print a special note about? DALLAS Eagle Scouts or AUSTIN Eagle Scouts?

DALLAS.

How many people read THAT? A couple hundred friends and family.
They print it because IT"S LOCAL!

SMU deserves it's own special space in the sports section, especially during football and basketball season, JUST BECAUSE IT HAPPENS HERE - whether they suck or whether they stuff a cobb up the 'Horns' *ss.

And if they DO have a big upset win - it LEADS - because they are DALLAS' EAGLE-frickin' SCOUTS.

Well, here you go, folks. I emailed a letter to the DMN sports staff about the kick-off luncheon. Here's the reply from Mark M. Konradi, assistant sports editor:

Mr. Hurst,

I am the college editor. (Your email) was forwarded to me.

Thanks for taking the time to write us. It helps shape our coverage. We were certainly aware of the SMU kickoff luncheon to which you refer. As a rule, you have not seen us do much with any of the college luncheons. Virtually every college does some sort of routine luncheon. At some schools, where the access to a coach is at issue, such things as the luncheon may be the only time you can have access to a coach to hear him speak. That is not the case at SMU, where we have a very good communication process with the Mustangs’ staff.

We had an SMU story in Wednesday’s paper, for example. And we hope to have a significant SMU presence in our upcoming preview section, which appears on Aug. 31.

Like you, we are very much aware of the optimism on the Hilltop, perhaps the most so in decades. I expect our coverage will detail SMU’s run this season.

I respect your concerns, and while the kickoff luncheon was not an event we chose to cover, we will be covering many more SMU events.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write.

Mark M. Konradi

And if you look in the college notes in Sports Day, there's something about SMU virtually every day. Moreso than local Eagle scouts.

Thanks for posting the editors phone number. As a paying customer, I let him know my concerns. But we did get our usual first column, three massive paragraphs on UT, while every other team in the state of Texas gets a little crumb. (And this was the norm before the Rose Bowl.)

I question the common sense of anybody who truly thinks featuring SMU sports would sell more papers in the metroplex than featuring UT sports.

Zero, zip, nada about today's scrimmage at Ford. No excuse for that.

And we are WELL aware of what the Darkside President, and his rear end sniffing assistant think on this subject.

Don't worry, in 3 or 4 years when Doh has us in the Final Four, our mediocre football team will get some mention, and a recruting boost.
