he's won 77 out of the last 78 is what I meant and is a one last second FG away from perfection.

I hate to nit pick, but you are the first to point out that a loss is a loss, no matter the score, so stop qualifying his last second one. The guy is 77-1 in his last 78, which is unbelievable and this will come back to haunt us just as Rice is currently doing.

I usually refer to it as the College and University of North Texas.

Do you really think that Dodge would do that? I sure would hope not. Why in the world would he take his first head job at a school for only one year and then bolt for another program in the same area? Talk about lack of loyalty and class.[/quote]

Good point, but the real question is, why in the world would Todd Dodge want to make a lateral move, at best, to coach smu? If and when he leaves NT there is no doubt it will be for a much higher profile program than smuT.

I don't understand this. Couldn't he have gotten a better job? Why would anyone want to play football at UNT? - I guess we'll just have to see..

I keep reading that UNT kept us from a bowl game - how? We still needed to beat Rice regardless of the outcome of the UNT game

actually its speculative but a bowl can choose any team it wants if there were 6 teams with 7 wins. So , for example, the Ft Worth Bowl or the New Orleans Bowl could have chosen SMU over Rice and/or Tulsa.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'm OK with passing up a High School coach to try to snag a proven College coach. Sure Dodge looks good, but it isn't like he has been hurting for talent over there. Going for an unproven coach and hoping he does well is Copeland mentality and I'm happy to have nothing to do with it, even if Dodge turns out to be the next great college coach. It's a gamble - I'll trust Orsini to bring us the sure thing.

I agree with a good deal of this.

Gerry/Jerry Faust was a "genius" high school coach, too. Oops.

If (and despite what some think, that's still an "if") Dodge is successful at UNT -- and that includes cranking up a prolific offense, with or without the wins -- he'll be an offensive coordinator at a bigtime program before Christmas next year.

Orsini is 1-0 so far in major coach evaluations. Pretty good batting average.

When I interviewed Dodge a couple of years ago after Mitch Enright announced he had committed to SMU, Dodge talked about how Mitch is smart, tough, talented, strong, etc., will be sorely missed, etc. But what he also talked about was Enright's string of consecutive starts at Southlake Carroll, which he attributed in part to the fact that Enright had been in "the program" for years by the time he got to Carroll HS. They have a structured program in Southlake where the coaches teach the same schemes in high school, junior high .... probably daycare. At North Texas, he won't have kids who have been learning his system since they could walk. He's going to have to teach those guys a very complicated scheme in a relatively quick amount of time. Can they learn it? We'll see.
