Regarding Riley Dodge, anyone catch the highlights of Southlake's game last night. His passes have zero zip on them. There is a good reason Dodge is listed as "athlete" in the DMN state ratings.................

Yeah, Todd has a real loser for a son. He must be really embarrassed by Riley's lack of zip.

I agree with Friarwolf. Dodge has been given way too much credit and wasn't known as a great coach until he got to Southlake and basically inherited an all-star team with the offensive scheme already in place. Heck, look what Hal Wasson has done this year, and no one ever heard of him until he got to Southlake! Sure, Fossill Ridge made the playoffs once or twice, but never went more then 2 rounds.

I said it before, Southlake is more of a system, first all of Carroll ISD's junior highs start using the same offense and defensive plays as the high school so they are learning the system from the 6th grade on, and even some peewee teams try to duplicate it.

Then, they split the high school so Frosh and Soph go to one school, and the Juniors and Seniors go to the other, therefore they don't split the talent pool like all other area cities and how Plano used to, thus only the top underclassmen such as Riley Dodge and Tre Newton ever even dress with the Varisity before their Junior year. Just check other high school rosters, most have several starting sophomores and some even have freshmen, but you'll RARELY see that with Southlake.

Just think if TCU and SMU merged were underclassmen went to one campus and upperclassmen the other, and then you take only the best from both campuses for the athletic teams, they would probably dominate either ConfUSA or Mountain West, which is essentually what Southlake has been doing the last decade. Heck, even Bennet couldn't screw up a team with that much talent.

i think some would argue that TCU HAS dominated both CUSA and Mountain West Confs w/o the need for any shared talent pool (this year aside obviously)
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

DOMINATED C-USA? I think you need to do a little research on that topic. TCU won exactly 1 football championship during their C-USA tenure and they shared it with Southern Miss. Their last year in the conference they finished tied for 6th or 7th.

The kid weighs 150lbs soaking wet. Please stop comparing these HS QB's to the college level. The hits JWill took this year would have ended that kids career. There is a JUCO coach at Cisco JC, he is the former Odessa Permian HC through all the State Championship, bring him in with damn near his entire team and we win CUSA. They are big and fast. Most of the players are TT, OU, and UT kids who could not pass that HS test, (ACT/SAT), or did not want to be redshirted.

If they are at Cisco just because they didnt want a red shirt year at a BCS school, they are even more brain-wave challenged then I thought.

Big-un you are funny without trying to be (at least I think you aren't trying to be).

Honest question Stallion - I thought you were the one saying we should not recruit QB's 6 ft or shorter?

And for the record - I think Dodge will be successful - just think we cant take a chance on him at this point.

I never said that. I never said a bad word about recruiting Willis especially considering the other leftovers we get. If they are under 6-0 though they better have outstanding quickness. Best guesses are that Dodge is just under 6-0 and about 175-180 which is just about Justin's real height when he was recruited. Guys like Willis' and Dodge also got great high school coaching.

Would you ride the pine for a year if you could play somewhere else and then walk into a starting role as a soph of junior. If you would, or if you tell your kids that you are [deleted]. You get better by playing. Some of those kids play one season at a JUCO and go straight into a starting role at a D1 school. Now, don't use SMU as an example of that because our JUCO transfers we do get can't even play here. Does anyone on this board know anything about college football. We sat here and talk about bringing in JUCOs and gostangs makes a comment like this. WOW, we are behind the times.

You get a clue - clueless one.

Most JUCO's go JUCO becasue of grade issues not because they think they can pick up more playing time and then transfer into starting roles in BCS schools. The ones that transfer From JUCO into starting roles transfer into schools like SMU.

Only an idiot would turn down a BCS scholarship because he was afraid to redshirt a year - and you know as well as I do that not why these kids go the JUCO route.

They get scholarships at the JUCO, with a PROMISE of scholarship at the D! school. C'mon gostang, you messing with the bigdaddy. I have forgot more football than you wll ever know. JUCO's go to JUCO's for one or two reasons. 1. Grades 2. Playing time. If you are and athlete, why go to a school where you will get redshirted (scout team player/dummy) when you can play at a high level JUCO?

Phil, get off the boards and go coach the game. Strike that, just stay where you are the team is okay without you.

Wrong oh big un (who is apparently not actually a Daddy)

Juco's go juco for three reasons:

1) Grades
2) Grades
3) Hope to get better so they can transfer to best available D-1 school.

Nobody goes there instead of a BCS option - even if it means redshirting......unless they have really bad advice from the mentally challenged.
