I honestly think purple may be one of the worst color schemes for a university. It is just hideous. At least TCU fixed the thin white pants from the 80s. Rainy days provided a little too much information.

Also, on a parting note: Love the 80's jerseys

Why must you run?? Your thoughts are so hilarious. It would be an interesting situation if what you are saying comes true. Not only for SMU, but for your integrity.

The 80's jerseys are the deal. We should definitely go back.

Did A&M change their unis after their cheetah years? Did Alabama? What about Tennessee or basicaly any SEC team?
We have paid for our sins many times over the last 20 years, and it's time to level the playing field, hire a legitimate coach, and go back to one of the best looking unis in college football.

Did any of the above receive the DEATH PENALTY or anything even closely approximating it? Don't think so.
Dow, Exxon, Philip Morris...
When you have been so vilified by an event sometimes you need to distance as far as you can. Just ask SMU's own Dr. Rita Willock (see on Dale Hansen tonight)
along the same lines, why does this school (on its own or under pressure from or its fans) not do more to pump up the image of and associate itself with Doak Walker? The award and all things football seem to be completely separate. Other schools seem to draw on their past, usually the good times. We have so many good times to look to (other than the days leading up to 1987) but the folks on this board are either 25 or under or gaga in love with the Pony Express.
Is it a case of modern day apologies? "I'm not sorry for what I did or said; I'm just sorry I got caught."
Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!

SMU created the Doak Walker Award to reassert its place in what is right with College Football. They added the Doak Walker Statute as an integral part of its regrowth at Ford. What more would you suggest?

A four page love affair with an era of SMU football. Get over it. A new damned uniform isn't going to make the football team better! Even if it looks like the PE uni, the PE isn't going to show up!

Oh! Oh! Oh! We need to go back to [insert uniform worn during the era you were at SMU] uniform! That's the best! The others suck!

If you don't think cool uniforms matter to recruits then you are dead wrong.

What does THAT have to do with anything. There have been others in the last 20 years that should have gotten it, including ATM and Alabama, but everyone knows it will never be used again and CERTAINLY not at a large state school.

Question, not a flame:
If the Pony Express uni's recall the "issues" of the eighties, why not recreate the tradltion of Doak and the sixities (my era)? Red helmuts, red jerseys, plain with no piping, throwback pants, e.g. khaki color, etc. at least on occasion. Could have Pony on helmut?
Having said that, the blue jerseys and white helmuts does look good.
