First they did equate Tulsa University with the tenth ring of Hell. Which probably doesn't sit very well with a Presbyterian University. Second they did use the word [deleted] which was for a halftime show even Rice's a little over the top. I know they use the word on South Park, but its not something I would want my kid to call his mom for example. Its a word not really meant for that stage. So, I think Tulsa has a point about that one. I do think that Tulsa being the tenth ring of hell is actually pretty funny.

Doesn't sound as bad as when the MOB forms the aTm symbol on the field and then adds an e on both sides: eaTme.

Oh, here is what they said at the Tulsa game:

http://mob.rice.edu/history/scripts/200 ... ulsa.shtml

In 1973 the Texas A&M Aggies took exception to a performance of Rice's MOB and formed an angry mob outside Rice's own stadium, trapping the Owl band inside for hours until police dispersed some of the crowd and allowed the band to exit, transported by food service trucks.

The MOB now salutes Reveille, the mascot of the Aggies. This is a little dog with a big responsibility. But even Reveille likes to make that pause that refreshes. [pause] So the MOB has formed a fire hydrant and plays "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"
Music: Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?
Action: Rice twirler parades with a dog leash:

Okay, the eaTme thing is crass. The Reveille thing is just plain funny. And I have no problem making fun of other schools, the whole [deleted] thing shows a lack of creativity. I would have been peeved if my kids had heard it. That's part of the problem these days (wow, I swear I'm not that old but I sound like my mom!) is that people resort to cursing rather than quality insults.

What looked like a pretty funny routine - especially considering how lame the MOB has been the last few years was marred by the [deleted] line which was just lazy writing - not funny unless you are 13. They could have spent 20 minutes thinking of something actually clever and then they would have had a good show instead of an issue.

Tulsa filing a complaint is even more lame however. How Tulsaish.

Their band sucks.
Wow - lighten up. Their band is fantastic. Haven't seen this one yet, but as a rule, they're hysterical.
Plagiarize!

It would be one thing if their outrage was limited to the word of choice. However, their outrage is directed at the entire halftime show. They may not like the association of their coach with Dante's Inferno, but that was an ingenious skit. I do not condone the word "[deleted]" being used at a college sporting event and would be supportive of a complaint of that. On the other hand Tulsa loses credibility by attacking the entire skit. Like it or not, it is not an unfair association.

Mustangxc, you nailed it. It's jokes, people. JOKES. The great satirist Tom Lehrer once said that "it is impossible to write good satire without offending SOMEBODY." That is because the definition of satire is telling the TRUTH in a humorous way, and incidentally in a way that many people don't want to hear, because it makes them look bad. Unfortunately, for them, because its the truth.

If Tulsa fans are so offended, maybe they should think about fighting fire with fire instead of crying like a bunch of babies.

It's called the wussification of America. Everyone gets offended way too easily. Sadly, that's the way of the world nowadays.
