I thought at the end with what 3rd and short, UH has no timeouts left, and less than 2 minutes to go, we have got to run for the first. Instead the pass is incomplete and UH has plenty of time. If we had run on 3rd and we don't make it, we still would have run the clock down under a minute. UH got the ball back with what about 1:50 and scored with 24 seconds to go.
i completely agree. we could have still run more time off the clock or best case, gotten the first down. throwing the ball on 3rd and a few was stupid. maybe we get the first but maybe we leave an extra 40 seconds on the clock. i'm sure they would have found a way to still score with 1 minute instead of almost 2 but would have been nice regardless to limit the time they had the ball
Yes.

FYI: "How the West Was Won" was released just a couple of weeks ago on DVD/Blu-Ray. It's on my Christmas list. ![]()
Anyway, wanted to get back to you on this.... it's so amazing to watch this flick. Everybody in it is a know actor, it's crazy. Even the bit players, your like oh yeah, later that guy was in 24 for years. Or what not. Definition of an ensemble film. Sadly, I feel it's underrated and forgotten by many. I mean watch the Pacino speech. It's classic Pacino. And of course the clip I linked to has to be Baldwin's finest moment(s) captured on film. Just a brilliant flick. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
All they needed was a field goal though, right? They would have had plenty of time to get in FG range anyways. GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!

However, you do realize Houston had NO timeouts. Andrew McKinney was averaging about 5 yards per carry. Coach Jones was simply trying to run the clock out. [/quote] Perhaps he didnt realize that, since Houston did have a timeout, and used it after the first run. MANNISTO, J. kickoff 56 yards to the SMU14, HENDERSON, J. return 14 yards to the SMU28, out-of-bounds. S 1-10 S28 SMU drive start at 02:29. S 1-10 S28 MCKINNEY, A. rush for 2 yards to the SMU30 (THOMPSON, I.). S 2-8 S30 Timeout Houston, clock 02:22. S 2-8 S30 MCKINNEY, A. rush for 4 yards to the SMU34 (NICHOLSON, Matt). S 3-4 S34 MITCHELL, B.L. pass incomplete to WILKERSON, T. (BRINKLEY, B.). S 4-4 S34 MORSTEAD, T. punt 51 yards to the HOU15, fair catch by FONTENETTE, K.. --------------- 3 plays, 6 yards, TOP 00:31 --------------- I dont understand how we could run just 31 seconds off the clock in 4 plays. The clock wasnt stopped between the 2nd and 3rd down plays, should have waited until the play clock was almost up before snapping the ball. But, apparently 2nd down, 3rd down, and the punt took just 24 seconds, combined. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
There was a time out after the 2nd McKinney run. Do not know where you got the play by play but it is apparently in error. They had 2 TOs when the series began and used them after the first 2 plays.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Exactly. If you're going to play clock on 1st and 2nd down to run them out of time outs, you've got to run the ball on third down. If you don't make the first down, at least the clock is moving. Worst case your giving the Defense only 1:20 to stop them, instead of 2 full minutes.
And what was with him not calling time out with 10 seconds to go. With a time out there, you've got two shots at the end zone or a chance to get closer. Instead, he wasted 4 seconds AND then got a delay penalty to boot. And two outside runs on 2-1 and 3-1 from the five???? Who was the guy who use to scream "THAT'S ON YOU BENNETT!" from the rafters all the time? Well, this one's on Jones. He completely mishandled the last five minutes. He blew it. With his salary, I expect him to be better than that.
