OU was fortunate to have an incredibly strong finish against Tech and OSU and got to do so on a national stage.

The question is whether Missouri can pull an upset...and whether that would then put Texas in the "mythical national championship" game against the SEC champ. Penn State and USC can play for "asterisk" bragging rights. And of course Utah and Boise can still have "perfect seasons" (I guess I should include Ball State in that grouping)

In any given year, this system just shows it is no better than what we used to have. At least the old ways of declaring the "national champion" allowed SMU to claim we once won one of those.

Still better than when Big 1011-Pac 10 wouldn't give the other conferences a sniff!

At least we make the Mythical No.1 play the Mythical No.2 for a Mythical Championship now.

The BCS Conferences make so much money the way the system is now structured, I doubt we shall ever see a real playoff!

play this out in "yester year". SEC champ hosts the Sugar Bowl against either Texas or Texas Tech. OU plays Penn State in Orange. Rose has Ohio State vs USC and Cotton has Texas or Tech playing SEC runner up. Looks like one of those "asterisk" years with as many as 3-4 teams claiming to be national champs.

We no longer need mythical championships. We need a 16 team playoff system that would be the biggest sporting event ever exceeding even March Madness.

If Mizzou does pull off the upset will the pollsters put a non-conference champion over a conference champion if they both have one loss?

Not likely but more BCS BS to consider!

The winner of the Southeastern Conference Championship Game between the Crimson Tide and Gators is virtually guaranteed a spot in the BCS national title game on Jan. 8 in Miami.

Oklahoma would earn the other spot by beating Missouri. If the Sooners lose, it could open the door for Texas to go to the national title game, despite not playing for its conference championship.

If voters are squeamish about letting a team that didn't win its conference play for a national championship, maybe Southern California could get a shot at the SEC champ in South Florida.

The Trojans are fifth in the BCS standings with a game to go at rival UCLA.

The only thing funnier then Texas SOS costing them the southern champion spot would be OU playing missouri - and because Missouri is weak, it ends up costing OU the national championship spot. That would be sweet.

And yes - it is the AD's fault - agree that he could not know Arkansas would be so bad this year - but Rice is probably better then UT thought when they were scheduled, plus UTEP and Florida Atlantic were known bottom dwellers. Deloss always schedules the W's to pad the W/L column - now it has back fired on him and I just find it funny.

OU will win and it will be Florida/OU in the national championship - with Florida winning.

The BCS is a joke - and as SMU fans we should be for anything that exposes it - only the big schools getting boomed will change it - the cartel is just fine if a small school gets hosed.

You are right. It is time the "in crowd" BCS "haves" finally get crunched so that change will start to happen.

If OU beats Mizzou, it'll be the Sooners and Florida. No question - OK maybe Bama.

(unless, of course, UT files an injunction to halt the BCS championship game. Anybody who thinks the 'Horns will take this with grace and class is high. Look for ugly, indignant displays from now through Jan. 8. A "crime" has been committed, you see.)

This is nothing new for the West Coast with respect to the BCS:

They did it in 2000, by putting Florida State in the title game over
Washington.

They did it in 2001, by putting Nebraska in the title game
over Oregon.

They did it in 2003, by leaving No. 1-in-both-polls USC
out of the title game.

They did it in 2004, by keeping Cal out of the
Rose Bowl.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot do you be_atch and moan!

OU over Texas for the Big 12 championship is a travesty. OU is on probation (again) for cripes sakes.

45-35 indeed.

I would love to hear a straight answer on this about the strenght of schedule.

Missouri when they played Texas was #2 or 3. Next weekend when they play OU they will be lucky to be in the top 20-25. Should OU and UT get identical SOS points for playing the same team, or does common sense take over when you realize Mizzou had a lot more going for them/to play for 2 months ago, than they do now?. To me, this SOS BS is just another purely subjective number that the computers can fix however they see fit, to get the results that the BCS wants.

The Rose Bowl will continue to be televised on ABC through 2014 under a separate, previous contract.

The Rose Bowl is also slated to host the 2014 title game.

So everything is locked in until 2014 at the earliest!

The possibilities continue...

The largest truth is there is no answer that will placate Texas, save for a Missouri upset of Oklahoma on Saturday night. Even then, the Longhorns would have to sweat out two possibilities that would prevent them from rising from No. 3 into the top two.

One, No. 1 Alabama could lose a close game to No. 4 Florida and the BCS would provide a rematch in the BCS Championship Game.

Two, the voters may recoil from giving the Crimson Tide or the Longhorns, neither a conference champion, the opportunity to play for the crystal football. In that case, No. 5 USC could benefit from the voters' cold feet.

From 12/1 DMN:

Stoops turned down offer to campaign for OU during UT-A&M broadcast on Thanksgiving. Mack jumped at the chance during OU game.

(For you guys who think Texas' approach is no different from anybody else.)
