One year June says we are going to recruit Nationwide-and the same posters say Yeah Yeah! Then June says we are going to concentrate on Houston and the Metroplex and the same posters say Yeah Yeah! Sometimes I wonder if some of you can think for yourselves without being told what to think by the SMU propoganda line. I think it is pretty stupid not to send a recruiter to cover at least the top programs in around the San Antonio area and I had difficulty believing we don't-but we keep hearing this from SAPony. Its just laziness IF we don't. We've gotten a bunch of guys from even smaller schools around the San Antonio area in recent years.

You ever get tired of being a genius?

He said he was going to concentrate on Dallas and Houston. He didn't say that he wouldn't be sending recruiters to other schools in Texas.

Don't worry. We won't show any more happiness or optimism on the board or support for our coaching staff.

I am also from San Antonio and wish we would recruit more here, but I understand why we are concentrating on Houston and DFW. This last year there was only one top recruit from San Antonio and he chose Texas. Texas dominates San Antonio as it does everywhere. When there are a limited number of top recruits in an area and Texas gets to pick it leaves very few for us.

We may not have a presence in San Antonio, but Coach Jones is well received. I previously reported that when he spoke to the San Antonio Quarterback club, they had the best attendance in 3 or 4 years. Most if not all were impressed. Clement's father sat with me and was very impressed with Jones. He clearly would have approved of his son playing for June. I believe that if someone from San Antonio has any interest in SMU and can play that Jones can get him.

If you read the prospect interviews on Rivals, you will conclude that our typical prospect is looking for first a BCS program, second a winning program, and third a chance to play. At this time we only offer the third factor and therefore we have to recruit hard. A simple letter or phone call will not get it done. We have to work on them hard in order to get their commitment. There is a limit to time and energy. A coach can go to Houston and see several prospects and their coaches or San Antonio and see one. It is like any other business, you concentrate your sales effort where you believe you can have the most impact. But, until all we have to do is say we are interested, we should concentrate our efforts.
