When can we begin to discuss Hotel accomodations

Maybe I am in the minority, but I consider WINNING to be the only reward I need as a fan. If playing in Hawaii helps recruiting, helps big time with publicity (Jones returns to Hawaii.... would be best if vs. Hawaii but I guess that isn't happening) rewards the players, I'm OK with it because those things bring more wins for me to enjoy in future years.

Agreed 100%

I said that I would be thrilled with any bowl bid, but all things being equal, I would prefer to be present to witness said victory.

We should all wait and see what the Mustang Club will offer for it's members.

If you are active duty or a retiree, than the Hale Koa is without a doubt where you need to be staying. Especially if you are on a budget.

If someone needs to discuss accomodations from a financial perspective, they shouldn't wait for the Mustang Club. Mustang Club deals are usually aimed at those who are well off not those who are on a budget.

It sucks that most won't be able to go, but the press will be waaay bigger if we go to Hawaii than any other bowl; even bigger than if we win the conf championship, I think.

I would think that when looking at goals for a season, winning a conference championship would be a good goal to have. For us, so would going to a bowl, but winning the championship is something that would push the team a bit more. With that in mind, the bowl that Coach Jones should've had in mind was the bowl offered to the Conference Champion which would be the Liberty Bowl.

Midway through the season this is still an attainable goal; and the goal shouldn't be altered. Yes, we'd need UH to lose and while that doesn't seem like a great chance of happening given UH's cardiac nature, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility as some would have you believe. UH hasn't won anything yet, and neither has SMU. Both of us still have competitive games to play and we should see where the chips fall when it's all done and finished, but again the ultimate goal is still a possibility.

I think what Coach Jones has done thus far is heading towards remarkable, and I think we've finally got a coach that can take us where we want to go. That however doesn't make him perfect. I think we're nitpicking his comments, but nonetheless it's probably not the wisest move to go and campaign for a bowl that wouldn't be in line with our best interests. Our best interests are to win the conference championship and go to the Liberty Bowl. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to or disappointed if we went to the Hawaii bowl as a result of not winning the conference championship.
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

The Mustang Band has been to EVERY BOWL game. With the AD dept in debt up to its ears, it is very unlikely that the Band would be sent to Hawaii.

I hope the AD dept makes a liar of me on this one. The M Band has suffered just as much as the football team (look at our numbers) and they deserve a trip as well.

Don't bowls require/pay for bands to go?

No.. Schools deduct their expenses from the payout. The net is shared among Conference teams. When SMU when to the Holiday Bowl, it was the first bowl game in 12 years. SMU took their entire entourage including band. After expenses, SMU was in the whole several hundred thousand dollars. Which brought up the remark, "how much do we have to pay the SWC since we went in the hole?"

Christmas in Hawaii is a great time. Whole family went a few years ago - even the little ones enjoyed it. Great memories. Yes it will be expensive, but it will provide a lifetime of memories. And as for his statement. I assume it is based on conversations with all concerned. The bowls check out the schools to see if they offered will the school accept. And for those of you who complain about the psychology of the statement I would say I have come to believe that June Jones is a master motivator. I do not believe for one second that he does not want to win the conference more than go to Hawaii. He knows wining the conference will do more for recruiting than going to Hawaii and with his pay he can go to Hawaii anytime. His goal will be to win this game and then the next and then the next. He knows we are 6.5 point favorites and we do not play well when we are favorites. BTW, if we go to the Hawaii bowl we will be the home team regardless of how many of us can make the trip.

"If we win we will go to the Hawaii Bowl"...what kind of stupid [deleted] statement is that? Is he such a loser that he has given up on winning the conference title even though we are currently tied for it.

Every Pony fan should be mad at that statement, and if you aren't, then you are what has been wrong with the program..giving coaches and administrations free passes on the questionable stuff they say and do.

We should be focused on the Conference Championship..not going to Hawaii so June can drink with his buddies..

[deleted]. We have not smelled the postseason in 25 years and now you're mad at the coach who took us from 1-11 to a possible bowl berth in one season because you think he ought to be talking about winning the conference and going to a different bowl than the one he wants to go to? We are not going to win our division, UH is. You are what is wrong with this program.

Good post jtstang, see you Saturday! Do you still need a horsehead?
