Sounds like TCU will play Iowa, which I have no interest in. I want TCU to play the loser of the SEC Championship. That game would interest me. TCU will crush Cincy or Iowa.

EastStang...agree about Patterson and his opportunities. We probably will see another shoe or two drop with top programs. There are programs that 7-5 or 8-4 isn't good enough and supporters who see greener grass in new coaches.

That said, I'm not sure Coach Patterson is going anywhere. While he will have opportunities, he has a sweet deal in Ft. Worth - he's coach for life & potential BCS games in future.

Our success in the future can hinge on using TCU as an example of what we can do. There is a better chance to reach championships, bowls and even BCS games at SMU than the Baylors and others of the world. CUSA is wide open now with no dominate programs (while the WAC has Boise, MWC has Utah, BYU & TCU).

I thought Patterson would have left by now. If I were his agent, I would tell him to go. You can always go back down, but the opportunities to coach an elite program are few (assuming he gets one).

If I am a coach, I look at situations like Jeff Bower at Southern Miss (TCU fans will scoff, I know). Here was a coach that all he did was win and go to bowls and win championships at his alma mater. And the fired him after 14 consecutive winning seasons. Eventually, if you stand still, the grumblings will start.

What a great point! Boise Coach in similiar spot.

Iowa lost their stating QB. That would not be a good game. TCU vs Bama or Flordia would be interesting.

Notice they started getting almost all of the decent talent around this area that the BCS boys passed on or couldn't recruit because the kids wanted to play in N. Texas. Most of those kids signed with SMU in the late 70s and 80s. I predict that as our local recruiting gets back to pre death penalty days, TCU will go back into decline. There isn't enough non BCS talent around here to sustain both programs. Its kill or be killed.

You clearly don't know where we get most of our players. Very few are from the hoods of Big D.

Son is enrolling at TCU. Not a player though. I could see OU maybe but any of the others are out including the Phaggie job if it openned. Not many blue hair alums at most schools can put up with his a$s kicking antics on the sidelines. Norman would eat it up.

I'm starting the "Keep Stooper in Norman" website.

There are only 10-12 "elite" programs and none are open except ND. If Stoops leaves then there is something to talk about. He turned down his alma mater last year so no way to UK or CU and the like. Not sure he would head too far from Texas due to his recruiting network. His coaches put a ton of miles on their cars.

Horned Frog Fan Here - I come in peace. Patterson is not going anywhere until after next year's season. The sentiment is that next year's team will be better than this years (if we can replace our shut-down corners). If we run the tables again next year (and we should considering the schedule), we have a good shot at the national championship game.

Secondly, in case you haven't noticed, Patterson likes TCU & Fort Worth, and is very well paid allready and will get even more money now. Moving to a bigger program is a crap shoot. He saw what happened to Francione after he went to Alabama & A&M. I got to believe that he feels like he has a good thing going and will be around for the next 25 years or so.

actially i think patterson would be a perfect fit at ND... He has a high scoing offense with a stout defense... ND treats successful HDs like a GOD, at TCU hes merely a demigod... and with a good enough record, hes guaranteed a BCS bowl game at ND... top notch facilities, top notch money donors/boosters, a out of this world prestige and history to use for his recruiting.... the difference between weis and patterson and stoops is that patterson did this at a midmajor, not at a bcs team that has unlimited amounts of money and resources...

Oh, I don't know about "very few". If you count Plano, Irving and Garland as Dallasy and Aledo, Carrolton and Southlake as more Fort Worthy, then your roster is about 50/50 players from Fort Worth vs Dallas. Sure, you have your Rosebuds and Brownwoods and we have our Mount Vernons, Beaumonts but just given the name of each athlete's home city, you largely couldn't tell a difference between SMU and TCU.

And that is a point I have been forgetting to make, but meant to. Everything points to TCU being better next year than they are this year. It might make sense for Patty to wait until his team has peaked after next year, if he is going to bolt. There might be more $$$ and opportunities next year too, assuming the economy improves.

TCU won't get any better than 12-0 and I can easily see another undefeated SEC team, another undefeated or 1-loss Big XII team and at least another undefeated or 1-loss Pac-10/SEC/WAC/BigEast team being up there next year. At 3rd or 4th in BCS next year does TCU suddenly get the sympathy vote into the NC game? Maybe, but I don't think the BCS is that sentimental. This is for sure. TCU will need a much better Non-Conf schedule than Baylor and SMU if it wants to get back in this position again in 2010 and there's always those pesky Utah and BYU games to trip on. If I'm Gary Patterson and I'm sober, I may think I love Fort Worth and I love TCU but I'm not thinking that I'm going to do too much better than 4th in BCS and have a true shot at the national championship, this year or next. BCS games sure, but not the national championship. Life's unfair. Sorry Frogs.

Patterson has really polished his image from a crazed defensive coordinator which carried over when he became a head coach to a confident head coach who always says the right thing. Now behind the fences and closed doors, the crazed guy can still rear his head.I guess it is just a maturing, pr -type thing. Good for him and the frogs. They have earned the respect of the big-time football world.
