Big Hoss wrote:Look, is he clicking on all cylinders? No. But if he starts most of our games next year, he will have pretty much every record held by any QB ever in SMU history. So he's doing something right, isn't he?
Plus, again, this is our 2ND YEAR IN A ROW to go to a bowl game. Let's lighten up a bit and enjoy the ride.
Yes, he is breaking records. The reason is that SMU is passing more, and those records should come naturally. Padron has missed opportunities throughout the season to make simple plays. This inconsistent play is troubling. Making a bowl game two years in a row is an accomplishment worthy of praise. It demonstrates the reality that SMU has truly improved, something many deemed impossible. Unfortunately, SMU's season has been characterized by poor play. SMU is average in almost every way, winning those games it should win and losing those games that it should lose. In the run and shoot, a heavy burden is placed on the offense for production. That production is far from what should be expected. It would be irresponsible to not recognize SMU's bowl accomplishments, but it would be equally irresponsible to cast aside all frustration and imagine this team is without fault.

Padron was just off all day and he definitely had less mustard on the ball today then normal. He had a few drop passes but even more bad throws. I hate to blame one kid for a loss but I have to say he deserves most of the blame.

I am not blaming him for the loss either, but he flat out did not have it today. He missed reads and got too locked in on his primary target as well as holding onto the ball too long. The drops hurt too. Although he missed several passes the reason why I was disappointed in him today is because of all the mental errors today especially toward the end of the game when we needed him the most.

Padron may start the next two years because he is the best we have, but he is not good enough now to be a starter on a ranked team. If we want to be ranked in two years he has to make giant strides or we have to find another QB. Sometimes this year the receivers were the problem and I don't blame Kyle for those on target drops or misreads. But, today as has happened in other big games Kyle was the problem He left 3 touchdowns on the field by bad throws or misreading the defense. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but since he has started a lot games I just think he can't handle the pressure and I don't mean pass rush. He is his own worse enemy. If I were advising Kyle I would recommend he find a sports psychologist and work on his nerves.

So far i would agree but we need to give kyle some time. he has not performed well in big games, but he never played in a big playoff game as a starter in high school. Give the guy another year and then we can question his ability to handle pressure.

We'll learn a lot more about him September of 2011 when we open the season at Kyle Field versus A&M.

couch 'em wrote:There is no chance Padron doesn't start game 1 next year, but it is clear to all that we've played some really awful defences this year and didn't put up many points. It is also clear that the offense we are running is not what was run in Hawaii. If Hawaii ran the 'run n shoot' thus ain't it and not because we are running a lot.
Is it because the QB can't get it? WRs can't get it? Only partially implemented due to turnover? I hope #3 but if it is as insanely complicated every makes it out to be whenever we screw up I don't see how it could ever have been developed. It seems like we are running a basic nerfed offense because we can't pull it off still in year 3.
I basically agree that the offensive pieces currently in place still have not fully figured out the offensive scheme. Padron nor the receivers are making proper reads. Beasley may be the only one to have a grasp of the system. Because Padron is not making his reads properly he has become tentative, self doubting and has started telegraphing his throws by staring down the receiver he seeks to hit. I think that when the tape is broken down one would find either the 1st or 2d read receiver open for a reasonably safe throw.

I, for one, have seen many pro QBs have as bad a game as our QB and thye did not have a badly sprained ankle. Anyone see the QB for the Cardinals last weekend? Some of us need to get realistic.

does anyone else notice how we keep ruining young QB's by putting them as freshman and then when they have growing pains we pull them for another young QB?
patience and perseverance my friends, let him develop and learn from his experiences
we've been doing this [deleted] backward from every successful program in the country.
when we keep hitting 'reset' we're losing any ability for the young guys to learn before they get on the field.

Well said. Like I've been saying in this and other threads, some perspective is needed here. Yes Kyle had a bad game, but people saying we can never win with the kid are crazy. He has the talent he just need to mature as a field general if after the end of next year he is making the same kind of mistakes it will be time to start thinking about a replacement (after new recruit redshirts in the offense/kaiser has another year to develop)

He was definitely off but other than TCU, that was the best defense we've seen all year. They had a lot of good coverages. Twice they batted away two good deep balls that would have been TD's in other games.
I'm not happy with his performance today but he needs better WR's too. Bradley is very average and Holman is a freshman with potential. I would have gone to Beasley all day long - at least he can get open and catch almost every ball thrown to him.

please re-read what samurai stang wrote. that was more than accurate. ive always been amazed by the human condition that just "assumes" that things will get better over time. padron will get better because he will get older. tony romo will get better because hes played longer. dirk will get better every year, etc etc.
maybe it doesnt get better. as jack once said, maybe this is as good as it gets. of course, i am referring strictly to padron's play today and all season. you are freaking blind or delusional if you dont have serious questions about padron's ability to be the qb for a team that will win this mediocre conference, much less anything bigger. dont think coach messiah isnt aware as well.
