Yes it was not even close and I'll even grant that in the 80's and 90's comparing SMU to TCU was comparing University of Florida to South Florida but TIMES HAVE CHANGED and it's now flipped 180 in the other direction. Unfortunately all you "professionals and elitieists" forget that. Understandable because not a whole lot of the "new generation" cares much about the SMU of today.

Ok, you're on drugs. While I agree that discussing brick color shouldn’t be our primary topic, it is a factor when considering campus aesthetics, which impacts the college experience. TCU's campus is ugly, but I expect TCU fans to admit it's ugly like I would expect a mother to admit her kids are ugly. Let's move on.

Look, despite all of the current and future resources that SMU has it can't possibly be better than TCU in every way. I'm sure your Chess Club can beat our Chess Club--woo hoo! Your football team is 5 +/- years ahead of SMU--sincere congratulations.

However, to say "times have changed" makes you sound like a complete idiot standing there with your purple glasses. US News has SMU at 56 while TCU is at 99 (with A LOT of very good schools in between). Neeley catching Cox? ROFL!!!! UTD's biz school kicks Neeley's [deleted] (and that's not a dig at UTD, as they are becoming a model for progress).

Bottom line, SMU + Dallas is WAAAAAY better than TCU + FW. Now go back to your ugly purple board on your ugly campus.

Nice work CMF

They do have us beat in cheerleader coed talent. Hopefully we can adopt that model successfully.

If Dallas is so much better than why did ESPN choose Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth as the spotlight for its week-long superbowl coverage?

ESPN wouldn't choose an "ugly area" for week long shows and hope to get big name guests. They could have done it in Jerry's parking lot all week, they could have done it in the AAC plaza, but no, they chose the most scenic and best background for their coverage. Believe me they did extensive research and thought about where to put the shows.

Biggest week for ESPN coverage all year long, and its in good 'ol downtown FW!

Again 20 years ago it would probably be in Dallas but not only has TCU caught up to SMU and passed them, so has Fort Worth because SMU and Dallas are stuck in the past of 20 years ago instead of evolving.

Dallas thought it was too good to have the new Cowboys stadium. Arlington and its economy is saying thank you.

Well you are entitled to your opinion but apparently (judging by the number of applications) there are lots of people who like the TCU campus. Like you said, I wouldn't expect an SMU fan to admit that their campus is ugly either. Why the heck does anyone ever bring this up????

There are a lot of applicants to Eastern Illinois as well...Doesn't make them good or attractive...

Ft. Worth is a dump....I was there 2 weeks ago, I will never go back...Joe t.'s is a massive sell, and it smells bad...

Let me begin by saying this is the biggest waste of time topic I have read on this board since joining.

TCU football finished the season ranked #2 in the country. We can't argue that their football team currently is better than ours. Just as they can't argue that ours is on the rise. Why else would they be trolling our board?

Arguing brick color is pointless. Some prefer traditional red while others prefer puke yellow!

Educationally, as someone has pointed out, both Forbes and U.S. News & World Reports have SMU ranked significantly higher than TCU. Personally, when your journalism program is one of your most nationally renowned there is a problem. Especially considering that newspapers are laying off staffs because of a decline in readership and adverting dollars. Anyone with a computer or smart phone can be a journalist today. I think there are a few bloggers here! The purpose of getting a degree is to get a job after graduation, which SMU prepares you to do. Regarding the quote about new buildings on campus, all I can say is drive around SMU today. New buildings are everywhere. We have started construction on the Bush Library and torn down the old Mrs. Baird's factory for additional building. I would argue that the gap between SMU and TCU in these areas is wider than that between our football programs.

Finally I have to address the comment concerning why ESPN chose Fort Worth over Dallas. IMO, the state of Texas is viewed as a "country" state where we all ride horse to work; wear cowboy boots, ten gallon hats, and huge belt buckles; dip snuff; and speak with thick accents. You want to see that, you go to Fort Worth. Nationally people don't want to see Texans as "citified" or cultured, which is what you get from Downtown Dallas, Uptown, Victory Park, Highland Park, and Addison--all in Dallas County.

But TCU fans can rest easy--you will always have better barbecue in Fort Worth.

Do you really think ESPN choosing FW over Dallas had anything at ALL to do with TCU?

Cmon, man.

All I'm saying is that I interviewed in Ft. Worth about 9 years ago and during one of my interviews a guy leaned back in his chair, propped his boots on his desk and said "women don't seem to make it here and I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing." I looked around and realized there weren't many people there who looked like me either. I ran back to Dallas. This interview seemed to epitomize most peoples' perception of Texas. Ironically I think that was the only TCU grad who ever interviewed me.

And I'm new here, I'm sure I will find a number of threads that I believe are complete wastes of time! :D
