Orsini on ESPN Blog

Postby GiddyUp » Wed Aug 17, 2011 10:05 pm

I wonder how many out of towners buy season tickets if they can make 1/2 the games? Have we tried a survey?

The excuses should be over now - get your lazy fellow alums off their @ss or we are screwed.

Send out 500 letters to alumni around dfw indicating that they have won 4 tickets each to a game. Let's say navy. 2000 tickets total. Ask them to pick them up on the boulevard game day (so they can see how fun and exciting the blvd is on game day ). Welcome them with a tshirt or some sort of smu merchandise. After they experience our game day atmosphere, They will be dying to come back, especially if they bring their kids who will nag nag nag their parents to buy tickets to the next game. It's an investment. We know we aren't going to use all of the tickets anyway. Hopefully, the next year they become season ticket holders.

We should be focused on getting people to come and see our product once...I guarantee they come back. Relying on season ticket sale promotion after, what everyone outside of our circle, considers two mediocre seasons is a terrible tactic.

Ps. It's a little ridiculous we don't give away tickets to these underprivileged kids in the first place... I understand attempting to have people buy them for them first. But come game day we always have 8000+ seats open that a future Dallas pony fan could be sitting in...

I'm going to bed..,someone let me know if I should've hit the sack before this post.

All students and facility get tickets. Here's an idea. Instead of just complaining about what Orsini isn't doing, let's all buy one or two additional season tickets. Then call a class, ate who doesn't go to games and invite them to as many games as possible.

Or we can sit around and [deleted] about what our leaders are not doing and elect to do nothing.

Do we have the check yet because there were discussions of moving our "home" game to San Antonio.

I would expect that most people who can afford to do that already are. THe problem I have is that Orsini seems to be whining that no one will buy season tickets without trying to be proactive about getting people to buy season tickets.

great post. OTP & have I think 13 season tickets between the two of us.

Still need to see Orsini devise a plan to get in front of as many people who arent season ticket holders/game goers, tell them a story worth telling, and make an run at asking for the sale.

Much is made about the lack of marketing. Then when we do market, I hear Orsini's accountant background causes him to say "ok...if we spend $1000...show me how we make $1001"..thing is, marketing is one thing, sales is another..they're related, but you must do something about both

Agree on both counts. Due to some family circumstances I did not renew in the spring, never heard a peep from SMU asking me to renew. How about sending letters or calling some of the season ticket holders who have not reupped if we are down from last year? What about a direct mail campaign coordinated with the development office who maintains donation lists? Just make a lot of small efforts until you can afford a bigger campaign. Complaining on a blog is not the way to go - makes the university look bad, and we cannot afford any negative publicity.

Ha, true - but we aren't paid by the university, at least most of us.
