Just logging on for the first time today, and this just makes me shake my head.
If you have other facts about this story, then share with the class, please, Traumadoc.
Frankly, the burden of proof is on you.
And to create an account just to share throw this story on PF.com seems like a bizarre and unprofessional way to handle this.

Traumadoc... not sure what your point is. We all support the team. We're some of the few who actually go into the stadium after the tailgate.

The originating post read like an attack on the alumni band. Something about the AB, people generally can't get them to *not* play their horns on the blvd. If the AB didn't play, there was a good reason.

Again, the AB wasn't aware ahead of time that there was going to be a team walk, and at the time the request was made, the AB wasn't in a position to help out. A source who was actually at the DMC space on the blvd said they didn't have the right mix or number of people to cover the parts. I believe it. Me and my horn were down the way because we weren't scheduled to do anything until later. (FYI - playing one's horn in the middle of a meal is gross. Think about it.)

Perhaps addressing your concerns directly with Orsini, Turner, and/or Hopkins will yield the result you want for next week. My suggestion is to do so early in the week so that if there is a request made of us old farts instead of the band, we can discuss and plan accordingly at our rehearsal.

June Jones could smush the Alumni Band with his thumb. You can be replaced by his favorite Youkelele troup

I forgot to mention... if you all want us to play Happy Birthday (for a donation to the scholarship fund, of course), we need to know that in advance, too, so that we can print off the music. Yes, we do need the music if you want all of us to play it in the same key.

Gostangs, the female ones seem to be the only ones with the balls to speak up in a public forum

lets think about that one for a second - the females are the only ones with the balls to speak up in an ANONYMOUS public forum. Very impressive. Double humorous irony

Traumadoc wrote:The incident unfortunately happened and yes there is more to it but everyone is missing the point. This is a new team and a new coaching staff that has been to two bowl games. These are some of the best student atheletes and ambassadors the school has ever had playing football. The entire SMU family needs to get behind coach Jones and the players to support their efforts. The incident with the alumni band is only an example of the old school culture around the campus. We have a chance this week to come together and change our old ways. President Turner, Athletic Director Orsini, Mustang Club and Band Director Dom Hopkins take charge or assign someone to organize and cheer our boys at the Pony Walk this family weekend. Remember its FAMILY weekend. I will be at the corner cheering for the whole team.

Can we delete this thread? We've established there was no "incident" (quite believable explanation that the alumni band was not scheduled to show up yet, and a few were milling around with a bunch of miscellaneous diamond m club people, thus could not have played if they wanted to) and we have another poster essentially saying she wouldn't want to play for the team anyway because the nutless wonders are around. Just embarassing for all involved.

Perhaps the band could make a deal with the football team: if the receivers learn to get open when running routes and catch balls, then the band can play songs for them the following week.

I am not sure what happened or why, the first home game is usually a shakedown cruise for everyone. Kind of like Gilligan's island.

Peruna’s Island.

Just sit right back and you’ll here a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from an urban park
On an SMU ship.

Coach Jones was a mighty football man,
Peruna, brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
SMU’d be lost, SMU’d be lost.

The geldings started too get nervous,
Liberty and Justice.
Peruna questioned their manhood,
They could not whip it out; they could not whip it out.

The ship set ground on the shore of this charted urban isle,
With Orsini, June Jones, the third,
The billionaire, and his wife.
Peruna, and the geldings too,
Here on Peruna’s island.

So this is the tale of our castaways,
They’ll be here for a long, long time.
They’ll have to make the best of things,
It’s an uphill climb.

Orsini and June Jones, the third, will do their very best.
To make recruits comfortable in the SMU nest.
No phones, no cash. no motor cars, no recruiting luxury.
Just like USC now,
An admissions committee, An admissions committee.

So join us each fall my friend on Bishop Boulevard,
With the seven cast of characters,
here on Peruna’s island.

With Orsini, June Jones, the third,
The billionaire, and his wife.
Peruna, and the geldings too,
Here on Peruna’s island
