Can't believe people are upset that the Big 12 is dying. They never gave a f*#@ about SMU. I will dance on the grave of the Big 12.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

We should take no joy in the death of the Big12, since it would reduce our chances of joining a BCS conference centered in the SW. The movement to 4 super conferences reduces our chances further. And, if the SEC, PAC 12/16 and/or Big1G/BE carve up TX HS Football recruits, we are marginalized further. Even the Horns, who trying like mad to salvage the Big12 and beg OK to stay, know the loss of a TX/Great Plains BCS conference hurts them. They screwed up and TX football will be shared by all BCS conferences. TX HS players will now become mercenaries, going to schools coast to coast.

So, be careful what you wish for!

We need to use this as opportunity to sell local games...Play all OOC games in state of texas...sell recruits that parents can easily get to all games...best education, no homesickness...ect...

Play right away...

Quite the opposite. A conference centered around Texas/SW does not need a school like SMU. This is why the Big 12 would never take SMU unless so many Texas teams leave that it wouldn't be a BCS conference anyway. A conference with Texas, Tech, etc. already controls enough of the DFW market that we'd be a net drain on the system.

Blow up the Big12 and carve the Texas region into as many difference BCS conferences as possible and our odds go up. While the term "travel partner" is dumb considering the cost of travel is tiny compared to conference payouts these days, it is still undesireable to have one school out on an island. More BCS conferences with a school in Texas = more chances for SMU to tag along as part of that conference's attempt to take over the Texas market.

I'm glad you'll get some enjoyment out of the Big 12's collapse. Unfortunately, that will likely be all that SMU gets as they'll be on the outside looking in. At least you'll have your grave dancing and CUSA's embarrassingly bad TV contract.

As long as UT runs the big 12, SMU is not getting an invite...period.

Our Athletic Dept. can keep trying all the angles to get SMU into a BCS conference, but the bottom line is they are going to have to do a lot more work than just raising money on developing support for SMU in the area. We certainly need to be able to sell out our present smaller size stadium now, regardless of who the opponent is,with ticket giveaways or whatever. Just get it done. Failure to do that is not an option, and again it is going to take obtaining support beyond SMU.

It sounds like they could use some sort of specialized people focused on selling SMU as a product to residence of the Dallas area...what are the words I'm looking for?........ marketing?... advertising?.... no those can't be it.

Take a bow UT, not only have you destroyed a conference, you ended a pretty good rivalry in Colorado - Nebraska, as well as 3 of the best rivalries in all of college FB.

OU - Nebraska
OU - Texas
Texas - A&M

When does the current Cotton Bowl RR shoot-out agreement expire? That is going to be a big money loss for Dallas, as per Stoops, it will go the way of the OU-Neb game.

Wonder if SMU can parlay this financial loss into any political benefit within Dallas.

And most importantly UT could lose a game date in Dallas every year. The coup for OU would be if they got the PAC-12 to offer SMU/Houston instead of UT and Tech. That would give them entre into two large TV markets without the headache of diva UT. That would be a dagger to UT and allow the Big XII to survive.

A religiously affiliated school will never get into the Pac 10
