advantage: SMU

if we get accustomed to playing on it, and our opponents aren't, win. like the smurf turf.

i recall reading that some teams would paint their practice field blue to prep for BSU

This is the actual turf design that SMU used......SMU is the only NCAA Team that has this newest system installed according to SMU sources, and agreed to be the demo case and allow other schools to come view the install, etc.....would guess for a slight discount from the $800K price tag. I would think it has a warranty for replacement as JJ has complained about it for his guys.....

FTS3 System
The only turf system in the world designed to minimize its environmental impact to a minimum
UNIQUE IN INNOVATION

The system provides the same playing performance and characteristics as natural grass
Completely integrated design and production of all components: yarn, backing, Fine Tuned System underlayment, and infill materials
The artificial upper turf surface can be easily replaced at the end of its life. Another turf field can be installed on top of the same Fine Tuned layer, with a remarkable cost saving
The upper surface is completely recyclable according to a patented practice
Fine Tuned® System underlayment allows for the proper use of granulated post-consumer materials without creating harmful emissions, helping to safeguard the health of those who use the field

UNIQUE IN SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE

Performance characteristics are consistent throughout the entire playing surface
Optimum shock absorption and energy return
Reports on playing injuries testify to its safety
Excellent for rehabilitation therapy

UNIQUE IN VALUE AND LIFECYCLE COST

All biomechanical properties will remain unaltered over time
Mondoturf surfaces can be used in any weather conditions without any variation in play performances
System can be used 1,728 hours per year, compared with an average of 200 hours per year for a natural grass field

UNIQUE IN ITS LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

A saving of 47.6 tons of CO2 by way of:

During the production 70% of recycled materials is used
Horizontal drainage capacity of FTS underlayment allows for reduction of about 10 tons of CO2 with the reduced construction
Saving of up to 90% of water and 100% of fertilizers and pesticides normally used in natural grass
Maximum reduction of dependency from oil and gas

I'm guessing also, unless Mondo is able to treat the surface with some chemical to make it less slick.

Having played on a similar surface in soccer, I hope they realize that you need shoes designed for mud/soft ground, not normal or hard ground. The "grass" is extremely thin polyethylene and is very slick if the grass is matted down to one side. Underneath is sand and rubber pellets so you have much better traction if you have deep cleats which can dig into that bottom-layer. Otherwise it's like running on a dry slip-n-slide...

As a goalkeeper, I would have to be careful during my slides because because otherwise I could easily slide with the ball right out of the 16-yard box. Football uniforms are different, but yeah, it can be slick. It's like running around on your lawn in the morning.
