I am not knowledgeable to know this from watching note connected enough to hear it first hand, but JJ has said this in interviews consistently since day one.


He blends the two. Levels is a concept he uses and same with smash. However even a lot of west coast offenses use at least some route modification after the snap with at least one or two guys.

As for short yardage it may simply be a result of teams moving enough guys into run d that the keys tell the QB to sling it as that is where you have a numbers advantage.
