Yes, we should probably agree on something, like "every opponent possession on the 3rd Q".

We need to stop bagging on the students! For such a small enrollment the turnout is decent. Also I have seen a lot more fan apparel the last few years than the prior ten. The students are no longer 'too cool' to support the team.

You can only cheer for a loosing team so long and then you just give up.

Face facts - we do not have t-shirt fans and we probably never will. Small school, small fan base, get used to it.

I would rather focus attention on our ENTIRE LAME FAN BASE. I have heard our coach referred to as a corpse but our entire west seating are corpses. Only a handful of people cheering on 3rd down? Make some noise for crying out load and pump up the defense.

I flippin hate listening to 'raider power' especially in our house. Why on earth do we not have a rebuttal? We have zero chants/cheers besides S-M-U. That gets old...quick.

^Agree. I went to grad school at ASU. Those students filled up two lower level sections at Sun Devil Stadium. Probably 10-15,0000 of them all wearing gold. But you know what? There are 60,000 undergrad students there. The most impressive part? The other 60,000 ASU fans there wearing maroon and gold and getting loud when it mattered. The students in Tempe were no different than the students at SMU, or anywhere for that matter.

We have about 15,000 fans and about 1,000 students who care. So be it. When/if we beat big 12 teams regularly or win a bcs bowl this year we will see an increase.

It blows my mind how stupid people can be by blaming the students... We lost embarrassingly... AGAIN on national tv. I sure don't blame them.

Here's the thing... Blame them when we actually beat a team worth mentioning at hone and them leaving at half time... Honestly after the year o year crap wins and embarrassing losses, and with a coach who doesn't care but can't be fired, I'm truly surprised they even came.

They left when it was a 4 point game. They were the only sections in the entire stadium with substantial empty seats. Minor League

Well I was on West side and it was very obvious that 1/3rd checked out before any section in the entire stadium.

Well it's a shame but still we need to win big games before we blame fan loyalty. It looked like a lot of black on the home side though but I expected the crowd to be 60% tech and 40% smu.

the majority of SMU students couldn't care less about athletics and it has been that way for generations. That's why we have such poor alumni involvement. For those of us who are fanatical enough to spend out time on sites like this, it's disappointing because we want to be more like those "big time" programs we watch on TV, but we are who we are and I agree with those who say the only way it changes is if/when SMU puts a top 10 product on the field. Not sure that's going to happen in football, but I think bball in Moody is getting ready to be fun again.

I'm sure there were a lot of students who came out Friday in hopes of being seen on TV. At least give them credit for having a clearly white section. Couldn't say that about the west side stands which on TV was a mix of white, red and blue. Mrs CP asked "did they not get the memo?"

No one on this thread blames the students for the loss. Just because someone criticizes the students for leaving early does not mean they think that is why we lost. It just means they think it is ridiculous that the students were seemingly the only demographic to leave the game early in mass.

If we had the taken the lead late, they would've all come back. Guaranteed. It was a 4-point game but the writing was on the wall. Our defense was clearly getting gassed, and our offense was puttering. This game was the same ol' thing we've seen before. Kids don't like to be associated with losing...win a game they care about and they'll stay. They would've loved to "car keys" fans from Lubbock, are you kidding me!?!

Again, again and over again...we only have 6,000 undergrads...having 1,500-2,000 there is a pretty reasonable turn-out. These kids have never seen a dominant SMU.

I was impressed by the student section and more stayed than usual.

That number is wrong. It's about 6,200 undergrads.

Exactly even 50% turnout from students isn't a dent in our tedium, we just need to win the big wins to gain local popularity. We should put time and money to go on roadshows around local communities and donating 5k tickets in hopes they come out.
