Yeah, so you actually believe that the basketball guys are "promoting" basketball to the students, and THAT is what is bringing them to Moody --- as opposed to:

1) "new" Moody (compare with "new" Ford c. 2000 w/10,000 season ticket holders)
2) 19-5 record
3) Opponents that people want to see (Uconn, Cincy, Memphis).
4) Beer

Nah, you must be right. It's probably the efforts of the basketball coaches who actually reach out to the student body and fans (this of course, with no evidence that they have even made one phone call to the student body president, IFC prez, or the PanHellenic Prez).

Emphasis added to the quoted message.

Wasn't there a report on this message board that LB had called sorority presidents and asked them not to schedule meetings on dates when home BB games were being played?

Does that count>

Has a coach for any other sport made a similar request to campus organizations for men or women since June cameth?

I think he said that they "ought not" schedule meetings during games. Of course, this would be support for MY position, since it would be "after the fact", if even true that he contacted them to "not" schedule meetings (of yet, unconfirmed).

I'm sure June just wanted to work the room in the Miller Center to drum up cash for Born in June: The Movie. Kevin Costner ain't cheap, after all.

(edit: I wouldn't be critical if they didn't reach out, it's not really their job. Phil Bennett was very, very good about reaching out to the students. Did it work? I doubt it. I think 1,2,3,4 does more for attendance than reaching out).

You are a June apologist and hating on a real coach that has brought us back to relevance.

I'm on record for wanting him to be fired last year. This has nothing to do with hating the "real coach". Please show me where I at any point am critical of LB.

Or is it that because I challenged Rebel10's statement that the REASON for increased attendance is the [non-existent and/or non-proven] LB "outreach", and not, in fact, the list above.

That's why juries suck: idiots like you don't see actual evidence without "reading into" it what you want to see.

Actually that is the argument I used to OFB regarding ticket sales as opposed to Legends ticket office driving tickets sales. I said that before you did. Thanks for reinforcing my point. But Coach Brown did talk to the fraternities by several accounts asking them to welcome the players. And from all account students really like that fact that he is very visible on campus. That helps with student participation.

Here is my quote.

Rebel10 wrote:
Selling out has almost zero to do with Legends as they were here last year as well. And for you to come on the board and imply that is an insult to the team, students, and those that contributed to remodeling Moody. The bulk of the credit has to go to the team doing well and The New Moody opening up. If we are still winning when Legends leaves we will keep on trucking. Student lining up at 7am was not due to Legends.

Plenty of evidence LB has reached out to the students. He has YouTube videos and has sent emails. I know that he has also stopped by several fraternities if not all of them. You have no idea what you are talking about. Has it helped attendance? I honestly don't know but it absolutely has happened.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I'm surprised June finds time in his busy offseason recruiting schedule to attend basketball games.

Trying to understand the fascination with "JJ spotting" in and around Dallas. He's allowed to have a personal life, right?

I agree. But what are those sacred traditions you speak of?

Oh, here they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBhQxBaNnAo

That youtube film is funny, in that number 10 tradition, the SMU ring, was designed by me in the spring of 1973. I had it made by the owner of the SMU Book Store in The Umphrey Lee Student Center. As I recall, the owners name was McCatrney. After my parents had bugged me for months to order a class ring for my 1974 graduation, I approached Mr. McCartney and told him I wanted the gold "SMU seal charm" placed on the top of a plain shank as my school ring. At the time the school rings looked like an NFL championship ring, a colored stone on top with a mustang on one side and your grad year on the other. He did as I asked and said it would cost approximately $125.00. When I picked it up, he gave it to me for $5.00. It seems the rep from Balfour had seen it and went ape sh_t over it. I'm sure McCartney made some good coin selling the design rights to it, and using its design as a prototype for other universities.

So......fancy that, I'm a SMU tradition maker........Ya'll can kiss mah ring....Ha,ha,ha,ha,

The godfather wore a black SMU polo during the Virginia game this year. Who cares? Just recruit and win.
