When did I ever post anything that I was shocked? I WAS embarrassed by how we looked like a deer in headlights. We looked scared and lost.

Not shocked, mad.
None of us are shocked SMU lost, we are just absolutely spit angry and embarrassed at how bad SMU was beat and how unprepared the team was with no corrections to the offensive game plan based on Baylor's defensive plan. 67 Total yards in D-1 football?...and on National TV?..the SMU brand was badly tarnished after a great basketball season. Don't think that this doesn't make it more difficult for recruiting other sports at SMU now, including basketball. The stench lingers.

Seems to me like a double standard, LA, but ok -- my bad.
What do you do? Do you fire JJ today?

Dan Wolken @DanWolken · Aug 31 I really like June Jones and he's always been good to me personally, so I hate to see what's happening. But what's happening is obvious.
Since 1989,SMU is now 0-47-1 vs ORIGINAL six Big 12 South schools ( no TCU here). No wins in 25 years. None.

Yes, I would. Send a message that we aren't going to tolerate a lack of effort anywhere in our program.

What do you want us to do? Continue to smile and cheer even though we know we will be outmatched and out coached each week against the teams that others care about?

Probably can't fire him without a bigger buyout. My guess is that the contract says once we are no longer bowl eligible. Unfortunately/Fortunately, won't be much longer. I really hope once we are no longer eligible they pull the trigger and don't wait till the end of the season. I appreciate june's first few years, but after ASU we should have split ways. That was a costly decision.

It was a serious question, not rhetorical, not smart arsed.

We can't afford to fire him but we can reassign him for the remainder of the season

Ponyboy, I understand what you are trying to do and remain positive, and I understand if we had lost by 7 points there are some who would bash June for not winning the game, but please understand people are mad and frustrated that we are not competitive (expected or not) and showed no sign of life on offense.
It doesn't matter if Baylor is ranked 10th - its how we played and the disparity of talent, preparation, execution, and game plan. We looked like we went into the game not prepared - particularly on offense, the supposed specialty of the coach who runs an offense that purportedly narrows the gap against more talented teams.
We all expected to get beat badly. This beating confirmed that we are going the wrong direction and the fact that Baylor found a coach that was capable of turning the backwater armpit of Waco and the perennial doormat of the Big XII into a powerhouse. SMU on the other hand, has a coach that rests on the laurels of having been a NFL coach and an offensive philosophy that to my knowledge not other college team is running. We were told wide receivers and QB would flock to run his offense, but all I see the QBs and WRs flocking to Baylor and A and M (who have former UH coaches) to run their offense. June might as well be running the split T than the RnS.
Lastly, I think June is a good man, but he burned up a lot of good will that a majority of SMU fans had for him after his initial success. You cannot alienate the fan base and expect them to support you when you get shut out against Houston and Baylor - programs that should be our measuring posts.

I asked first, LA, but ok.
My answer to your question begins with this assumption. You owe your school loyalty. Owe it. And, by extension, you owe the leadership loyalty - and that includes the head coach. Is it unlimited, unconditional? No. But that loyalty goes a lot farther than most fans today are willing to go in this "what have you done for me lately" culture.
I was disappointed by the ASU thing, but willing to forgive. I do remember the great things JJ has done for this program. But short of a nine-win miracle this year, we need to move on.
Having said all that, I will never attack the guy personally. And I'll never join a group-think lynch mob. There's just no need for it. The results speak for themselves. And some day a mob will come for you.
