Or not. You sound like the guy that runs the Mean a Green website. SMU gets nothing out of playing you...other than maybe a W.

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
It's really only a select few that hate you guys and no SMU hasn't really done anything to UNT.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
I'm definitely not the guy that runs the MG website. What is your rationale in thinking that there is no benefit in SMU playing NT?
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
There's only a handful of true rivalries in CFB and none of them are or will ever be in the G5. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
I should have said gains little, not nothing. The obvious advantage is that both schools can use the other schools' fans to pad crappy attendance numbers. As you'll see Saturday, SMU is likely to see the better end of that trade. Now for disadvantages. Under a best case scenario, SMU wins. Even if the talent gap widens in SMU's favor, it's not the gimme win that it's nationally viewed that it should be. Ugly side is that SMU faces an embarrassing loss. Regardless how you feel regarding the above comments, SMU likely has a decade to make its case as we lead into the 2025/2026 GoR expiration in the B12 and ACC. Every OOC game scheduled needs to help move SMU in the right direction. The school better be worth the potential loss, or there should be zero doubt about the W. UNT just doesn't check the box. I would say the same about schools such as Rice, La Tech, et al. Hope this changes soon. Pony up!
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
And twice the amount of Mean Green fans than SMU fans in your stadium next year. We are good for your home attendance numbers, which are abysmal except when Big 12 opponents fill your stadium when they come a calling every now and then. That is why your AD agreed to a 10 year contract (much too long for our situation). Attendance. Something you won't get playing the Memphis's of the world.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....This thread is depressing. It sucks to be associated with anything related to UNT. agree with CMF, outside of attendance every other year we have nothing to gain from playing them. as far as having a 10-yr arrangement, I think that was just a bad decision.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
Who says all those games will be played? Series get pared down or cancelled all the time. The new guy might not want to have anything to do with them or they might not provide the attendance bump some predict. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
Maybe SMU should buy them out. Shouldn't be more than 100,000 dollars since the are UNT. #HammerDown
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....This series won't get cancelled. TCU will be dropping us in the future so we need a local school
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....This thread is a throw back to our previous low periods of play since the demise of the SWC. UNT had better worry about UTSA up staging them in CUSA. Go Roadrunners!

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
I don't see your logic here. TCU wouldn't drop a game they feel is an easy win, that still draws interest with their fan base. I would understand the logic if they were still in the MWC when they needed their OOC schedule to be as tough as possible for a shot at the BCS, but their conference schedule is already tough enough in the Big 12. As far as perception goes, both schools have a good relationship and it wouldn't make sense to throw away a storied rivalry. Like I stated earlier, the overall record is 46-40-7. SMU still has the most wins in a row. Programs have down periods. Sadly ours has been since 1987. The way I see it is will hire a new coach next year and get on the right path. Call me optimistic, but SMU will end up on the right side of realignment. We are a storied program in a great market with a lot of potential. Everyone saw how fast the basketball program has turned around. If we get the right guy in here we will be okay. As for UNT, I do not mean to be offensive when I state you are not really our rival. You just are not a traditional program (for clarification I would consider any Texas school from the SWC a traditional program). We have a national championship and a Heisman winner. You can say, well that was a long time ago, and I would say that is the point. We have a strong history, even including the dark parts. I wish the best of luck to your program. I do not agree with people slandering your school or program. I have had friends including family and co-workers that went to UNT. I only wish the best of luck to you. Clearly you are a program on the rise with a new stadium and conference affiliation, but you must remember that you moved up because SMU moved up. Mr. Dunham should at least acknowledge that. I feel this can be a great series and possibly develop into a quasi rivalry in the following years. I am looking forward to Saturday as it is clear that most of the UNT fan base is as well. Good luck and see you in Denton.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....Del Conte said last year that TCU's strategy for OOC scheduling is SMU, a P5 school, and an FCS school.
