I'm just going pure numbers on students. I'll have to whip out some MATLAB or C++ to model anything more complicated or too many variables

And still no excuse. Most BU fans aren't even alumni, most are DFW bandwagon fans just like the TCU fans of the Dalton era.
Yeah, sorry about that. I was bouncing between meetings and clearly not paying much attention. Thank you for noting the mistake though. I do disagree on the BU fans part though. Most of the ones that I know are alumni that have been hiding under a rock during their dark years. Either way, my main point is that we will always have an attendance struggle due to our smaller student enrollment. Now, I actually believe this doesn't even matter, because we have greater challenges ahead that I do not personally think we will be able to overcome. Thanks to the power 5 conferences, we will continue to see larger and larger obstacles to our relevance in football starting about four years from now.

Ridiculous statement. Pretty crummy tease.

Yeah, I really don't care for The Ticket anyways. I understand teasing a segment, as well as headline porn. I think it is cheap, but that isn't going to change anytime soon.

A non-SMU buddy of mine informed me of the time and content, hence the title. It was more of a "who can they hire to get this thing outa the dumpster?" gab-fest.
Oh, no problem SmooBoy, I am glad you posted it so we could listen. and you never know, they might very well have teased this segment in that manner.

Dear members of the media, Please rest assured that our student athletes, (i.e. football players) are coming out of our university with the same lack of preparedness for life, academic interest, and overall issues with illiteracy and health problems as all the other major college programs. (Just between you and me the starting O-line couldn't spell SMU and more than one player signed his scholarship with an 'X'). While we DO appreciate our former players staying out of jail/family court/NOW sponsored propaganda material due to beating their wife/child/rotweiler and thereby not shaming the school in any direct way we can assure you that we are players are still the same ticking time bombs every other major college football with continuous massive head trauma are. In other words, don't let the Georgian Architecture fool you -we're legit. Thanks for your interest in Mustang athletics and STEER CLEAR OF THOMAS MORESTEAD (who thankfully can't read this to save his life) AT ALL COSTS, SMU

This bad press will continue until basketball starts.
At least there is a clear reason why we suck and hopefully that reason will be completely remedied at the end of this garbage season.

Individualized Studies in the Liberal Arts Applied Physiology and Sport Management
are two majors at SMU that seem pretty athlete friendly. Rice has Sport Management whose department has two tenure-track professors and five lecturers/adjuncts/"professor in practice". Good cost savings.

That isn't a good reason to drop the program. Does everyone realize the negative effect it would have on our university. In Texas, you can't just say to hell with football, we are a basketball school now. We are not on the east coast. We are not Georgetown or Villanova. Football is king and we keep trying till we get it right.
If we dropped football, I would literally never have anything to do with the University again...I know, I know, not a big loss, but I am sure there are other people that feel the same way.

Same here 'Kidd.
As an example, when we didn't have a team those two years in the 80's & shortly thereafter, just look at the donations to the school! Zilch!!! Nada!!! That's what will happen again.
If they start another billion dollar drive for the endowment, it'll take them 250 years years & and inflation rate of 1,000% to make it - if they're lucky then.
We'll also see how much an SMU degree is worth. LOL!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Hilltop wrote:For all of those who keep mentioning ECU and UCF, here is a fun fact: They have significantly larger undergraduate populations! I am certain that the winning helps to sell out, but please take a look at the numbers below:
ECU: 21,000 UCF: 51,298 Baylor: 13,292 TCU: 8,456 SMU: 6,300
The difference in these class sizes really make an impact when you apply it over a longer period of time. Even TCU will produce 20,000 more alumni than SMU over the next 10 years. That is not simply 20,000 extra alumns to ask to attend an event, but over time, 20,000 extra families to reach out to. It truly adds up.
That 2k difference is really around 500 per year, so they'll produce 5k more alumni. You are right, though, winning cures all and is the only thing that matters for attendance given a long enough period of success. Losing can take it away much more quickly, though. Check out pictures of TCU's stadium last year...
