Off topic, but I can't resist. Slow day. I talked to RGT on the Boulevard one time a couple of years back and told him the following story. Your response may be the exact same as his: My last name is Swayze. My mother's maiden name is Alford. At Ole Miss, where RGT used to be president, they had an old baseball coach directly related to me named Tom Swayze (after whom their baseball field is named). And they also had an AD named Warner Alford, also directly related to me but from my mother's side. Waner Alford married Tom Swayze's daughter Kay and had a daughter named... Swayze Alford, a lawyer about my age who practices in downtown Oxford, MS.All I got from that fascinating story was a blank stare, a quick handshake, and a few mumbled words from our president.

I'm guessing you weren't either a) hanging with W or b) wielding a hefty check

Haha, no. Along those lines, I do think the fact that I was in a t shirt and shorts cemented the tone of the conversation.
Swayze Alford, by the way, is a male not a female.

Yes, though I never met him. His side was more recently from Houston and mine San Antonio and Dallas, but we have a long Mississippi history.

I agree. I respect Mason for trying to get the best results he can. In the overall scheme of things, the fee for bringing in Rossley is nominal. Turner's decision is typical of him. Trying to save a few bucks. The real waste is the fact that Turner is one of the highest paid college presidents in the country.

Has anybody in this thread thought about the fans? A couple of wins would help attendance at least some. Why should I go to a game when the administration doesn't care enough to spend 30k to get some help - no matter how small a difference it might make.
We are in this jam cause the SOB wasn't willing to spend the cash to can a coach that was stealing money. Sad.

These kids come here with the idea in their heads they are going to be properly coached in the game of football, maybe the implied promise, and that's not happening right now. Morrison admits he hasn't called plays in 18 years and he needs help in that area. Rosslely can't make calls but he can help educate Morrison in making calls and developing new plays as well. The quarter backs and receivers need his coaching as well. Have to wonder what new and potential future recruits and coaches will think when they discover that this team and there coaches did not have the full support of the school administration when they were left in a black hole but JJ. If the $ amount is any were near what was mentioned here it is really small of Dr. Turner not to put up to support these guys. I've heard it is minimal as well from other people.

And I am sure that Morrison would just sit there and say "Yes sir Mr. Rossley". If you want Rossley, fire Morrison and hire him. Let him be hands on with the players. As a consultant with almost half the season gone it would be throwing any amount of money spent out the window.

My thoughts exactly Mrydel. I agree with Turner's decision.

It's been over three weeks, since Tom Mason asked Coach Rossely for assistance, we should've moved when Mason asked for help. SMU is last in the nation in almost every offensive category, and we are probably headed for 0-12. If giving Tom Mason the help that HE requested, could possibly help this pathetic offense and increased our chances of winning a game or two, 25 grand seems like a pretty good investment to me. History books cannot be changed, and SMU is in the process of setting some records that we're going to regret.

My name, but not the Half Priced Books guy. That's a fictional character their head of marketing made up. I got a $50 settlement out of the deal when I called to discuss the matter.

I am just dumbfounded by people that think a consultant would automatically equal wins. Didn't, or don't we already have one that Jones hired?
If I had the ability I would run Iverson's "Practice" video here but substitute the word consultant for practice.
