Not going to get a rise out of me with the comment that we need to kill two strong varsity programs (for Men and Women, btw) to elevate lacrosse. I am a big lacrosse fan, as my son played it at SMU.

Honestly, zero sum proposals make no sense. No trade off is required or needed.

There is no way SMU should drop the world's most popular sport for Lacrosse which no school plays in the vicinity (as Richard Pryor would say). Here are are the 68 teams that play Lacrosse. It speaks for itself

The only sport that needs to be added is track. I would love to see baseball added as well, but being in Texas and wanting to excel in football we really need to add track so we never miss out on a speedster that wants to participate in both football and track. Additionally, we need to get track back in the fold while we still have an energetic Dave Wollman, who can easily resurrect a nationally prominent throwing program. Having world-class throwers to score points for us in the national championships will more easily entice distance runners and sprinters to want to join a winning program.

BTW shouldn't the SMU soccer stadium be named after Lamar Hunt-considering he is the father of American soccer. He did so much for SMU we should do it even without a donation

Not to be anti soccer, but with the rise academies in US Soccer, how big of a role will D-1 soccer play in developing top players in the future?

The vast majority of college soccer players already "pay to play." If I counted correctly(roster - scholarship limits), SMU has 21.5 players willing to pay to play for us.

In soccer, the very best will turn pro to get access to the best coaching and competition. The very good will end up at a college program.

Jordan Morris.

Soccer is like Basketball without the one and done rule. The players that stick around until they are seniors generally aren't the professional stars. But they can go pro and be solid players.

That said, with the recent rise of the salary cap for MLS and not only the academies but the the affiliations with the minor league teams, there will be a significant drop in talent in college soccer over the next 5 years.
