New Big 12 ThreadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: New Big 12 ThreadRGT planned it all out like this so he can retire with a conference football title under his belt.
Re: New Big 12 ThreadOur fans wont like the results, but this was an interesting poll:

Re: New Big 12 ThreadWe ain't winning any public opinion polls
Re: New Big 12 Thread
Possibly a more interesting poll would be, would we rather be in the Big 12, the ACC, or the Pac-12?
Re: New Big 12 ThreadWe want to be in any conference that puts an annual $10mil+ in our athletic coffers.
Re: New Big 12 ThreadOf course they're not. Everyone knows that the schools being mentioned for inclusion, with the possible exception of BYU, bring little to nothing to the TV market.
Again, THIS HAS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH TV. Television is only a factor because if they are going to bring in schools then they have to consider it. The prime motivation for expansion is the stability brought about by having the best possible access to the CFP, i.e. a championship game and HOPEFULLY two strong football teams.
Re: New Big 12 ThreadTexas at Colorado State, Tulane vs. OU, Memphis vs. Baylor...these all sound like non-conference snoozers unless anyone starts +5-0. Meanwhile you could put SMU vs. AnyBXII-WVU in the Cotton Bowl and get 6X +40,000, regardless of our record. We should advertise that adding SMU is rare opportunity to have destination-type away game built inside your season, were you can do graduate out-reach and recruitment in a major city, before Bowl games...every single year.
Re: New Big 12 ThreadIf we get left out this round, which is most likely, we should lobby the B12 in 1-2 years when Chad has this thing rolling to kick Baylor out and take us in. 1-2 years from now BU football will be back in the toilet and no one wants to go to Waco for an away game. How much more would OU, Texas, OSU, and Tech fans prefer a road trip to Dallas every other year as opposed to Waco? Baylor has been involved in 2 of the 3 most heinous athletic scandals in the nation this century, they've earned the boot.

Re: New Big 12 ThreadThe current agreement is equal pay amongst the schools. It was the only way UT kept the conference together previously. With expansion, the TV contract will be torn up and they will go back to tier 1 tier 2 and tier 3, with the new teams getting screwed in the tv deal.
Re: New Big 12 ThreadDo you want to keep your P5 V card or lose it? What's it worth to you?
I'm easy. I'd give it up for any P5. I'm not picky. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: New Big 12 Thread
Let's face it...the SWC broke up many moons ago because it wasn't fair to have revenue shared equally. SMU doesn't do it's part so we should be pleased with any P5 invite that gives us more revenue than we are currently getting. At least it would give us a chance to compete at the highest level. I have no problem with revenue being "shared" based on objective measurements like actual game attendance, TV ratings, etc...

Re: New Big 12 Thread
We might have to start paying the networks to televise AAC games. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: New Big 12 ThreadThis round may not be about Television, but it absolutely should be. The model is changing and fee structures are changing with cable delivery and footprint. We may not "bring" the Dallas market, but we're smack in the middle of it. We have the tools to be competitive (as well as recent history to show we can be). DFW is a growing market, and either someone moves in (and really hurts the Big 12 by taking away that income) or the Big 12 gets smart and shuts the door on that sort of move. The Big 12 product isn't as reliably strong as the Big 10, ACC or PAC12, and if those leagues reach into the Texas market, it will erode the Big 12's TV value. The SEC is already bleeding them. And I'm not even discussing recruiting impact.
We may not be the strongest candidate on the field at the moment, nor do we draw the most fans (though I think we'd draw better if we are competitive against opponents people have heard of) but we do have value where it counts in terms of location and TV market valuation. And if not today, at some point someone is going to want to move into DFW to get access to those eyeballs and those dollars. Support the Commitment! We're all SMU Mustangs fans- we should all be committed!
