Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Did Orlando say no or did the admin decide to pass for whatever reason?
Longhorns seem to love Traylor's recruiting ability. Could he get a great staff?
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?any info on the burnt orange fan site??
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
Might be???
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?nacho- ha, just trying to be a little tactful (very rare for me).
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Could Traylor become SMU's Gary Patterson? Although Patterson had spent more time coaching at the college level before he was given the TCU job, I don't think he had ever been a HC or AD. Even though Traylor's experience came at the HS level, to me it is still meaningful and the man has E. Texas connections which I think are important. Not sure how TCU fans felt about the Patterson hire initially. I think they lost their bowl game after Fran bolted and went 6-6 in Patterson's 1st year, failing to make a bowl game but since that time I think he's only had a couple of losing seasons in what has been a 17 year stint as TCU's HC

You are my favorite poster Red. Really
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
Their resumes couldn't be more different. Patterson paid his dues for almost two decades and definitively proved his worth as as a college coach before moving up to HC. His final year as DC he had the #1 defense in the country and was a Broyles Award finalist so he was pretty much the textbook internal promotion. Traylor's resume looks a lot like Art Briles' resume and he was only at Houston (his alma mater) for 5 seasons before leaving for Baylor. Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?OK, forget the Patterson comparison but how about an assistant taking over the program, salvaging (in large part) the current recruiting class and going on to continue positive momentum within the program? If Traylor was able to accomplish that and eventually get this program to 9-10 wins and then gets hired away by a P5 program, at least SMU will hopefully have become a more attractive job for future up and coming coaches
I can go either way on this...hire from within or bring in someone fresh...just as long as SMU can continue an upward trajectory in it's football program. As others have already said, going 6-6 next year might be an accomplishment given the schedule but as long as we don't immediately crash and burn and can reach that 9-10 win level within the next 3-4 years, Hart will have made a really good hire.

Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Traylor was brought in as a HC in waiting. THat was made very clear I thought when they hired him from UT.
I don't know if he is ready yet after only one year in the program, but that is why they hired him. It wouldn't surprise me at all. As far as hiring is concerned - June Jones was a slam dunk hire when it was made. So was Chad, LB, Jank. I know our long term history of coaching decisions isn't great, but right now I feel pretty good about the school's ability to make the right decision. That said, none of those were quick hires. I hope it is quick, but wouldn't be surprised if it drags out.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon? If Traylor is hired as HC I will never give another dime to this university!!!!!!
(Am I doing it right?) P.S., But seriously, I would like him to stay on as OC; just don't think he's ready to be our HC. Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
