And don't get our linebacker corp. wiped out early.

I don't want to take any thing away from UTEP...they are obviously for real, but damn...the [deleted] refs are killing us particularly with their non-calls.

Look at the bright side; we are just 6 or 7 players shy of having the material for a really mediocre defense. We should be better next year. Once again we have a lot of folks returning and we will have hopefully bigger, faster, stronger D.

I truly feel we will see improvement next year. We are just boys among men right now. Next year we will be teenagers among men.

That's true, we will be bigger and faster and stronger. And hopefully, we'll be HEALTHIER. Getting guys like D.D. Lee and Reggie Carrington will be a bigger boost than any incoming freshman, because those guys are experienced hitters who know Coach Bennett/Gush and their system. Plus we're adding the young (redshirt) guys. Honestly, I expect a pretty serious jump by the defense next year.
This is weird -- we're losing by 32 points with one quarter to go in the season and I'm already excited about Spring Ball. And I'm not drinking.

I remember UTEP having more speed than we did last year, and I gather they've improved pretty significantly. I like the fact we will remain conference mates with them, because they look like they are finally stepping up and determined to compete. I wonder how many seniors they have playing significant minutes? I would imagine most teams that whipped us this year have more seniors contributing significant minutes than we do. The problem is that the public schools have an advantage over SMU because they tend to have more transfers, JUCOs, etc... on their rosters so they tend to replace their seniors more readily than we do. I agree we will be better next year and I hope we win more than 3 games...and more important...we don't get blown out in as many games as we have this year. I continue to believe 2006 is the year to judge the progress of the program under Bennett. That will be the 1st year he's had HIS recruits in the program for 4 full years.

I appreciate that Coach Price pulled his starting QB with about a quarter to go. UTEP drew their largest crowd of the year too as they await thier bowl invitation.

Romo sacrificed his body for the team when he scored. He gets the Red Stallion award ala Hayden Fry

The safety does punture our offesive balloon near the end of the game. SMU played two different games tonight in the first and second halves.

Why go to New Orleans if we are going to play UNT. I'd vote no post-season play rather than schedule this game.

Corso, nothing personal but I would have to agree that it is pretty weird as well. This is the same crap we heard last year about all the guys (Foy, et al) that were being held back to make us so much better a team this year then we were last. Getting shredded by a team that was very little better than us last year does not get me excited about Spring ball or the following Fall.
By the way, a serious jump by the defense next year would not take very much.
I have never been more ready for a season to be over since last season.

Very well put Diehard.
It appears as if we will end this season with one of the 10 worst offenses in points scored AND one of the 10 worst defenses in points allowed. It also appears as if no other D-1A school will have this dubious distinction.
We defeated 3 schools that Saragin currently rates 125, 126 and 147. Better than last year for sure but certainly not something to brag about.
What would really get me excited about next year is if Bennett were allowed to recruit some JC bodies. We need them at virtually every defensive position
