Jesus, Stallion, what's wrong with you? You wonder why people jump on you on this board? You have a lot of good ideas/thoughts .... sometimes, but then you throw this in there? Basically you're saying "I disagree with you, and therefore if you disagree with me, you don't count and you're an idiot." Hard to believe you haven't won a Nobel Peace Prize with an open mind like that. Mix in some decaf .... take a nap .... something .... anything. It's quite possible that other people have ideas and opinions that are just as earth-shatteringly brilliant as yours.

I have challanged this guy factually at least 5 times to offer even a scintilla of evidence that one single private school BCS school would stop to ponder this idea for more than a millisecond or that this conference w/o those BCS schools would be financially viable based on Conference Revenue, bowl games and TV contracts-obviously he hasn't even tried because he is so naive about college football that he couldn't find his head from his [deleted]. I'm tired of this CRAP! you guys want to lose for another 30 years or want to go play YMCA Football-you got a fight on your hands because people who think like several in this thread have irreparably harmed SMU Football and flushed the damn program down the drain as it is. I tell you the only way you are going to get rid of Stallion and I bet a lot more like me is to join the MagnoliaLeague. I guarantee you I will never set foot on that campus in my life if it is done voluntarily.

I have nothing against Magnolialeague. I just don't like his idea. It would ruin SMU, esp. after paying all that money for Ford and the athletic gym.
I want to be in contention to be included in the next BCS conference shakeup. If that happens--and don't think it can't, ask UCONN, USF, and Louisville--we will be back on track.
Our tradition and our school demand excellence, not playing in a second rate league.

HAHAHA Stallion...you are good entertainment value.
I can feel the blood pressure rise as you type. I can tell you are a spirited fan. That is commendable trait and I admire you for that.
As I stated, I am going to approach the Presidents of the schools. This isn't as bad as you make it out to be for SMU. SMU is already is the closest thing there is to a southern academic conference. A good fan like you will need your pom-pom surgically removed from your hand. Admit it, you would root for the Ponies even if they dropped to Pop-Warner.
If for nothing else, this Magnolia League could be a great networking concept. Our respective schools have rather small alumni bases. If you are like me, Nashville is quite a ways away from DC. Through this Magnolia League concept, I am happy to have met some great sports fans on the blog boards and look forward to catching some games with great fans in the future. Life is too short. Have fun.

I am going to start the Eucalyptus League. I will contact the Presidents of the Universities and sell them on the viability of the concept. I will include:
SMU
Texas
Texas Tech
Texas A&M
Rice
Houston
Baylor
TCU
(look familiar)
We all have ties together and travel would be close. All we need to do is convince the Bowls and the BCS that we can be a competitive conference. We have regional ties and are all proud of our educational values and standards. All I see that is necessary is to contact the Presidents and sell them on the idea. Oh yeah, for our non conference games we could schedule teams from the Magnolialeague.

....and when you are talking to those Presidents-of the non-BCS schools-because the BCS school Presidents wouldn't have time for your nonsense-please remember the fill out the following questionaire:
Projected Bowl Game Affiliations:-----------
Projected TV Contracts------------
NCAA Tourney Slots----------------
Projected Conference Revenue----------------
Anticipated NCAA Division------------------(remember division 1A schools must win a certain number of games to be bowl eligible)
Finally, please describe how you plan for small private schools to make money flying all across the country to play each other. Factually, your plan would by necessity either make SMU bowl-ineligible every single year or in fact Division 1-AA or lower. So stop hiding behind your little academic warm and fuzzy feel good dream and come out and be honest about what your silly plan really means.

Idiotic....never happen. Can't even spell it.
Magnolialeague: You want in my business?
McClown: Huh? What?
Magnolialeague: My business, I'm starting a business.
McClown:: What is it?
Magnolialeague: Well, you've heard of 8-minute abs, right? Well, get this . . . 7-minute aaaaaabs.
McClown:: Huh? Well, what if someone comes out with 6-minute abs?
Magnolialeague No! No! No! You're not hearing me. I said 7-minutes not six. You can't even get your heart rate up in six minutes, not even a mouse on a wheel. Step into my office.
McClown:: What? What are you talking about.
Magnolialeague: Step into my office.
McClown:: Why?
Magnolialeague: Because you're fired. You're f'n fired, man!

I like the Eucalyptis League (but add Arkansas). In reality, I think when the BE begins to realize that it will not stay BCS for much longer, they will look around and see that there is no way that adding Marshall, Memphis or ECU (their closest teams) will make them a BCS conference. They might ask Army and Navy, but still gets them nowhere. They will suddenly have a moment of clarity and say, let's have a playoff. Then they will ask the MWC, CUSA, WAC, MAC and SBC to vote in Division 1-A council for a 24 team playoff system. Those conferences would approve it because none of them would be a lock to replace the BE in the BCS. And guess what it would pass by about six votes with the BE casting the deciding votes. At that point the BCS (which is not stupid) would say to the PAC 10, the Big X, add three teams, or would they? Who would they add? Would the PAC 10 add TCU, or Boise, or BYU, or CSU, or Fresno? Would the Big X add Pitt or WVa? That is the uncertainty that the last round of changes created which until it fleshes itself out will prevent anything resembling a Magnolia League. If there is a playoff system, you will then see all kinds of shifts going on. The old SWC teams might say, you know, if we reinstated the SWC, I'd have a better chance to get into the NCAA tournament than in the current alignment and I wouldn't be as beaten up when I got there. Now if the BE just gets replaced by CUSA or MWC in the BCS, nothing much will change.

Honestly how are we wasting this much time discussing the "magnolia" league. I think my concept for the "Make SMU rich league" is just as viable.
SMU
Miami
USC
FSU
LSU
Georgia
Texas
FLA
Alabama
Other three spots will be voted on each year from teams in the southern half of the US with a high probability of going to a BCS bowl.
We may not win a game...but hell at least we will reap the rewards of all those bowl game payouts
