None of the football players were consuming alcohol. Resources say the officer was intimidated by DeMryons size and perhaps he jumped the gun or shall I say tazer.
And for the person who mentioned "was the race card played?" Usually, when race is truly an issue, the card doesn't have to be played because the rest of the players "fold" before the game is even over! So, let's wait until the game ends!

Surely there's an enterprising plaintiff's attorney among us? Someone post the police officer's home phone number. File a complaint. If it was unjust, he needs to be suspended for awhile. Imagine if Vince Young were unjustly tazered? Anyone have the police report? It's only six bucks.

How the f*** is that even relevant to the conversation? As bad as the Austin police are, they can't hold a candle to the DPD.

I don't think he was saying that the Austin PD are as bad as the Dallas PD, I think he was attempting to put the image of how quickly this would have been in the media had a celebrity such as Vince Young been the person at the end of police violence instead of an unfortunately unknown outside of our community SMU football player. If that were the situation, this would have been the headline on ESPN (also that he had been arrested), as well as having numerous attornys falling all over themselves to be the guy to get to represent him in any claims he might wish to bring against the city....all pro bono of course.
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

Demyron could really help the program out with this incident. Think of how we can bill it - poor black SMU athlete tazered by police after being a good samaritan. We could score tons of brownies points with the entire black dallas community by going against the police. We haven't gotten many gotten many butts in the seats from Highland Park, maybe we can get Oak Cliff.

Also just realized - being ad Demyron is black, we might actually see an article from Blackistone positive about SMU.

Maybe he was a razorback? Many people do consider cops to be swine. On a side note, Dallas Cops have nothing on the Chicago cops, especially the ones who patrol the South Side.

In the for what it's worth department, I understand Martins blood alcohol level came in at 0.00%.

Any chance that Martin could sue the Dallas police for excessive force, etc?

I would think that would be very key considering he was arrested in the first place for Public Intoxication.

Even if he did get a little sassy with the cop (not saying he did or didn't), at least he wasn't drinking which would have been the thing he could have really got into trouble for from the university.

Hell, apparently he did have reason to be upset and angry since he was being arrested for PI when he hadn't even had a drink.

Hopefully, all charges will be dropped since he wasn't drinking and it seems questionable whether the cop should have even arrested him in the first place.

Remember - Cops lie. Courts don't like to rule against cops. The old prosecutor extortion gambit. Well, we have these charges pending against you and you might very well be convicted of them, so you might want to sign this release and we'll sign this dismissal of all charges against you with prejudice how does that sound son. If DeMyron has brass ones, he'll say try me you SOB, and then I won't need an NFL contract. Most people don't have that much brass.

Well, you can buy injury insurance against major injury that would prohibit NFL playing. Can you buy Cop insurance that would insure you against death by defendants prior to an upcoming trail against the DPD?

I don't know, I took a pro bono case of a guy who had marijuana in the glove box, 2 outstanding arrest warrants for non-moving violations with unpaid tickets, when the cop asked "whose is this?" pointing to baggie, he said "Mine." Defense was based on "I was lying when I said it was mine because I was protecting my cousin whose I thought it was, and he already had some serious legal trouble. Now I'm telling the truth -- not only was it not mine, but it wasn't my cousins -- it was the b*tch-ho who I'd been set up with on a date sitting in the passenger seat while I was being hassled by the cop while pumping gas." And I got a Not Guilty verdict.
