That of course is more expensive since they would have to have two sets of pants instead of one. That would also allow them to get wild sometimes and come out in an all white uniform.
Could be practical too. I remember the Longview Lobos coming out
wearing green pants on a cold rainy night at home. Then they switched
to DRY white for the second half.

Black helmets and red jerseys. Sell out to try and confuse Tech on opening day.

I promise, I'm not in love with the Wallis/Bartel era, but they wore some darn spiffy unis.

Ha, the tech fans wouldn't know who to scream derogatory comments to or throw tortillas at. White trash AND dumb is not the best combo.

I agree with Stallion and Waterpony completely. Bring back the 1980's/2000-2002 uniforms. Those were definitely the best. In case you think no one cares about our opinions, read Richard Sweet's blog from today ( http://smuad.blogspot.com/ ). He and/or the athletic department may very well use this discussion to decide our uniforms.

Other than the fact that Royal Blue is not an SMU color, the pony express era is what brought us to the DP I see no good in idolizing them by bringing back those unis. The current uniforms can become just as famous and memorable if we can get the program back to a top 25 level...IMHO.

Since this forum's opinions now may be considered to be "market research" let me put in my vote for the current unis. Nothing wrong with the James/Dickerson era unis, but I like last year's better. My freshman year Dave Smith changed to the Ohio State-lite uniforms which to this day seem like an odd fit, since our colors are/were red&blue. Best of all time IMO were the Jerry Levias-era red helmets / blue jerseys. One winning season will make the current color scheme the best of all time.

Uniforms are important. Lots of High School kids commit to schools to play ball because the uniforms look cool. I know, you would think academics etc.. would be the reason.

I don't agree with the seniors to be choosing the uniforms, 90% of them will never be seen or heard from again. It would be like a child allowed to pick his meal, McDonalds, or icecream and cake?

We already have those.
Supposedly navy blue helmets look more black than blue.
Don't really want to glorify our DP years forever so it's:

Is Oklahoma glorifying the rapings, drugs etc.. of Charles Thompson,Switzer etc..by wearing the same uniforms.
Is MIami and Alabama glorifying the past problems by wearing the same uniform??
The Uniform is your brand or logo and if you change it all the time you dilute it.

Acutally, YES! When I think of OU, Miami, and Alabama I think of
thugs, and gangstas.

I agree with Stallion. Bring back the Pony Express era uniforms. Before I come up from Houston for a game, I still mentally visualize the old uniform. When my son and I sit down to watch the game, it takes me a few minutes to adjust. Bring back the Pony Express uniforms. That uniform is what most people still imagine when SMU is mentioned. Besides, the white pants will make our players look bigger than they actually are (You would be surprised how mental advantages can make difference).

Let's not forget Peruna's part in the Death Penalty-rubbin' it in after every score by running across the field. Send Peruna to "retirement" in Mexico. The Best Dressed Band in the Land(aka 96 Guys and a Doll)-No now they must wear dark Red on dark Blue and the Doll must be banished. Why don't we erase the names of every SMU great (Dickerson, James, McIllhenny etc) from the school's records EXCEPT the mature grownups like Bill Clements and Edwin Cox who were entrusted with the duty to preserve the school's integrity, reputation and honor and are the most responsible for the DP. Yet SMU still proudly displays the names Clements and Cox in connection with the school but we can't wear Blue uniforms from the 1980s. That is the stupiest thought pattern I have ever heard. None of the recruits we are recruiting ever saw SMU's jerseies from the 1980s.
