Zach's arm will no doubt continue to give him problems; I wonder if he will stick it out here as well, he's not very happy here from what I've heard? Logan Turner has a good strong arm but likewise, I doubt he needs to start out as a true freshman...

So I will ask the OBVIOUS questions, What is his problem? Why is he not happy here? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't believe Corey ever was a huge fan of Coach and they often didn't see eye to eye on things i.e. the amount of play time and Coach has apparently even admitted that he didn't play Corey as much as he should have. Corey was promised a little more play time and say but from what I understand, he feels he was somewhat cheated from all of that and thus felt it necessary to get out.
It's difficult to understand just what is going through Corey's mind and I'm sure he thought through it for a few months but the point is he's gone, we need to move on now with a good plan B...

If that is the case then like you said, let's move on and may Cory succeed and our team too

I don't hear the same about your suggestion that Zach Rhodes' injury is nagging. But hey, I'm not on the team, nor am I even on campus.

Plan B is pretty rough...we keep losing guys that clearly have an overinflated picture of where they should be vis-a-vis the coaches.
I guess what I don't understand is how Matt Sanchez (and soon to be Mustain as well) can be so patient at USC but our second string doesn't feel lucky just to have a scholarship. The difference in talent between the two schools' QBs is so dramatic that were it me at SMU, I'd feel just fine getting an education for free and riding the pine until it was my time...and no, I'm not trying to...um...rhyme (that's so bad, I know). Slater, no badly how he may feel about not playing significantly enough, isn't head and shoulders above Willis. I am a fan of his...I like tough birds who can put up with the crap thrown their way. I really don't understand, though. Not this. JWill is one missed block away from being done. That is enough to expect to stay around.

Zach Rhodes is most definitely doing a fabulous job getting back into the swing of things but I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to have problems with his throwing arm. He's probably spent a considerable amount of time for treatment and rehabilitation the past year so I'm sure he would appreciate spending less time inside of the training room. Now, the upside is that he has decent work ethic and is never one to ignore and brush aside any painful problems. All things considered, hopefully we can see him do some great things on the field in the upcoming months.

Looks like Kate finally checked Ponyfans. Does anyone else find it sad that the Daily Campus got a story out before the DMN even got a blog entry written?

“The reason I came to SMU was to pursue a dream,” Slater said Wednesday, enroute from Dallas to his hometown of Seattle, Wash. “It’s unfortunate you have two really good quarterbacks.”

who is the other QB?

... who should be starting QB lol.

Really, with two years left Slater may have a chance to pick up with another team at the D1a level. But the fact is he got beat out here at SMU, and there's going to have to perform better wherever he goes if he expects to start.

Anyhow if Rhodes is healthy I think we'll be fine at QB. I'd be more comfortable with Slater as insurance but I think Rhodes style of play gives us a better opportunity to win "off the bench." So for a short term solution I like Rhodes, but if Justin is out for any long period, we'll miss Slater.

wow, I really shouldn't post before my coffee kicks in.

I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit. Please Corey Slater had his chance and blew it-he stunk up the place against UTEP. What did SMU have at halftime of his big break-I want to say 10 yards Total Offense. Great job Corey. He never performed at a high level at SMU including spring games. He's quite frankly is lucky SMU was desperate enough to give a third tier Division 1AA QB a chance. Corey Slater deserved to sit his [deleted] on the bench because he never came close to performing at the level of Justin Willis. He's another that has left SMU in a tough situation-but if Corey Slater was going to be the QB SMU wasn't going anywhere anyway.

What's with all of these posts from Stallion that I am 100% agreeable with these days?

At any rate, does anyone KNOW Rhodes? Can we talk PonyPride into doing an interview with the guy? It would be nice to know the straight scoop, not just what someone heard. One can only go so far with, "I was at Le Madeleine the other day and talked to a lady who works with someone who cleans Jerry Bennett's house, and she heard that Phil said to Jerry who in turn told his cleaning lady that Rhodes is exercising that shoulder"
