Honoring June Jones in Honolulu
January 1, 2008
Announced by Mayor Mufi Hannemann last night at the Cajun-Warrior bash, this season and the Warrior football program would not be anywhere without the great work by June Jones and his coaching staff. To help honor this great man, the City & County of Honolulu will celebrate by holding a parade on January 20 in Honolulu. No plans have been set yet, but won’t it be THAT much sweeter when the Warriors beat the Georgia Bulldogs to go undefeated in 2007-2008

The mayor's name is Mufi?

Either that, or he'd be sold on the bukus of money thrown at his feet to take the job, probably the latter

There are people who get tired of Hawaii -- believe it or not.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin is becoming increasingly more active in the West Virginia football coaching search. According to the Charleston Daily Mail, Manchin is pushing for a big name candidate in place of the current front-runners, which includes CMU head coach Butch Jones. This could be great news to many CMU fans, as losing Jones would be a tough blow after just hiring him one year ago. – MLive.com

Marshall Fan Here---

Manchin who is one of the biggest Hoo there are isn't interested in Jones, Davis or even Sabin (who is from WV). He wants Terry Bowden, and most likely he will get him.

As a WV native and Marshall fan I hope they hire him. He will destroy the program within no time.

I didnt say they would match. they don't need to match. They just need to do enough to keep him.

Not True. June sounded like chick who already has her new boyfriend picked out. It's just a matter of days before she breaks the news of her departure to her current boyfriend.

You don't go from saying you are definitely not leaving just 2 weeks ago, to saying you are open to new opportunities the night before your teams biggest game.

They still had an amazing year, regardless of conference.

Didn't anybody catch them commenting during the Sugar Bowl, that JJ hasn't taken a recruiting trip to the mainland in 3 years? That put up a red flag to me.

Someone posted earlier that 4 Texas players are committed to play at UH already, so he has been effective recruiting in Texas somehow.

There are two factors in wooing Jones:
1) He turned down UCLA because they wouldn't offer his assistants.
So, part of the package has to ensure that it is for Jones and his entire staff (IF THEY WANT TO COME), and increases in pay all around. I don't know what his staff makes, but that has to factor into the equation.

2) Insuring that senses that he will have a relatively level playing field here. If he does, then he might come here.

That said, if Hawaii, steps up and offers his assistants more money and agrees to upgrade facilities with the BCS money they get, he'll probably stay. It is his alma mater and he does have some loyalty. I think its in Hawaii's court. Last night's slaughter at the hands of probably one of the top four teams in the Country (maybe the best), might give Hawaii some room to try and hard nose him. Either way, I see us having a coach by this weekend, one way or the other.

His recruiting ability worries me a bit. But with the Brennan exposure and the NFL creds, I don't forsee it being a huge issue.

Found this on the Hawaii board:

"Heard Robert Kekaula say on the news that JJ still have no offers from UH yet and will be testing the waters. He also said that JJ has offers as high as $2M from another school. (I assume it's SMU.) The Atlanta Falcons could also be making a push in getting June Jones. JJ is so frustrated with the lack of support from the state and I assume, the UH administration (Hermie and friends) in trying to improve a lot of things concerning facilities, recruiting budget, and other concerns in trying to compete at a high level."
