More June Hawaii Bowl talk per Kate

I would love for us to go to the Hawaii Bowl but I don't like June Jones talking like we are a bunch of losers.

"If we win we will go to the Hawaii Bowl"...what kind of stupid [deleted] statement is that? Is he such a loser that he has given up on winning the conference title even though we are currently tied for it.

Every Pony fan should be mad at that statement, and if you aren't, then you are what has been wrong with the program..giving coaches and administrations free passes on the questionable stuff they say and do.

We should be focused on the Conference Championship..not going to Hawaii so June can drink with his buddies..

Back in the day would the Mustang Band and Peruna travel to bowl games?

The Mustang Band has been to EVERY BOWL game. With the AD dept in debt up to its ears, it is very unlikely that the Band would be sent to Hawaii.

I hope the AD dept makes a liar of me on this one. The M Band has suffered just as much as the football team (look at our numbers) and they deserve a trip as well.

Don't bowls require/pay for bands to go?

When Hawaii went to the Sugar Bowl the information came out that only the BCS bowls required schools to send the band to their bowls. However, they give so much money to teams that many others get sent in addition to the band, cheerleaders, and school officials and the school still comes out many millions ahead.

Did anyone ever answer as to whether Peruna was ever sent to a bowl game? I realize Hawaii might be a bit too far, but would Peruna go to an Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth? Or the Liberty Bowl? That lil guy has suffered through all the losses too and if we go he deserves to go too.

We sniffed the post-season in both '97 and '06, winning six each year.
Going to a bowl this year at 6-6 is not what I'd call "remarkable." The Hawaii Bowl has been in Jones' hip pocket all year, something Bennett didn't have. Winning 7 or 8 would be "remarkable."

I would be wetting-my-pants ecstatic if we go to any bowl. But I think it’s unfortunate for long-suffering fans who have been waiting for this moment for over 20 years, that the bowl they go to would be the one the fewest fans would be able to attend.

I will be going to Hawaii. I just hope I don't get a seat on that long flight next to any overly-ecstatic pants wetters!

If we do get to the Hawaii Bowl, it's going to one tough decision. I am on the record from when the BBall Tourney in Hawaii was announced as saying that if the football team is in Honolulu with the BBall team, I'm there.

But it really would be hard to justify the trip. I close on a house at the end of this month, haven't sold our current one, AND already have set in stone plans to go to Vancouver in February for the Olympics. Almost seems irresponsible to go to Hawaii for Christmas (not to mention depriving grandparents of my daughter's first year when she will really start to understand what is going on that time of year). So it would really really be better for me if it were the Liberty Bowl (or some other bowl, but I know that if we don't win the championship, and we're bowl eligible, the Hawaii Bowl is going to claim us).

i kind of agree with bagice - we should not be talking so much about hawaii when the goal is Memphis. This program should be about achieving as much as we can - and a big priority should be for the fans to see and experience our first bowl in 25 yrs - not just to have JJ achieve some sort of returning hero worship. What mitigates this for me is knowing the team would love hawaii and they are the ones that deserve the trip.

I'm a little surprised (or maybe not) that JJ would be content/happy with his goal of 6 wins and an all expense paid trip to Hawaii vs winning out and possibly playing for the conference title and then possibly the Liberty Bowl. Wouldn't playing for the championship mean two extra games including a bowl game as opposed to just one more game...the bowl game?

If we get to the Hawaii Bowl, who would we play as opposed to who we would possibly play if we were in the Liberty bowl? Which would give us a bigger recruiting boost if we won.

Fresno or Nevada is likely. In fact, Boise is possible. Idaho would be an outside possibility I believe.
