Totally agree.

Again, I think it is more for the players. He may not be running. But if we gave up 600 yards to UTEP what would Georgia or Auburn do with much bigger, faster, and stronger athletes. This is a young team. 2 years from now we could do this but not now. Auburn, Georgia, or Arkansas would go undefeated through the MWC. At Hawaii Jones would take on all comers, just give this team time to develop and we will do that.

Trust me...I haven't forgotten. I remember my senior year when we went 1-10. It was extremely painful. And as a former player, I know I would rather play on the big stage against a team from a power conference than play a relatively obscure opponent (from a "lesser" conference) in a relatively obscure bowl. It just looks cowardly to me and I'm shocked that Jones is openly campaigning for this with potentially 3 games left to play before the bowl. Again, I am excited for all you guys (and gals Diamond M) because you deserve this bowl game after all you have been through. If I were in your shoes then I would want to play the best, biggest name out there because I know you can beat em!!! We are speculating on that Reed. You should know that. But you guys are in a position to play anybody. We are not that talented but play together with good chemistry. I really like getting advice from people who are already established and forgot where they came from.

Do you really believe we can get 20,000 SMU fans to go to Memphis?[/quote]
He's out of his [deleted] mind. You can't get 20,000 at Ford.
UCF travel's much better than SMU and they had less than 9,000 at the Liberty Bowl BTW their avg attendance that year was 44,000 per game

Evidently June had to talk to a NY reporter to tell everyone what this is all about. http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/1 ... or-a-luau/
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Just seems odd that he is discussing this publicly at this time...

Maybe he didn't think any of us would read a NY Times story.

Totally agree.
TCU turned it around in '98. Franchione and the 6-win Frogs didn't duck USC. The rest is history.

I don't think most are OK with it. Jones' comments to the NYT are in direct opposition to Orsini's statement from yesterday. This whole thing was/is caused -intentionally- by Jones. I think he knows his buds at ESPN will ridicule SMU fans who oppose him. After all, they'll say, what do we know? We're a bunch of losers. "And look what Jones has done for them! They're so ungrateful!"

Well going back to the original "article". It is terrible reporting as usual. The money spot is split so there goes the money argument and it has already been said that an SWC team voted to go to the Aloha Bowl over the Cotton Bol (SMU) so yeah I could see it happening. Try a fact check every now and then Mr Pony.

The hyperbole on this issue is getting out of hand. I'm for going to Memphis if/when we win the conference, but if Jones wants to build this thing in stages, just like how the goal was to "get to 6 wins" not 12, I'm OK with going to Hawaii. We'll get plenty of press for the Jones homecoming. Next year we'll be a better team and more equipped to take on the SEC.

I am in some agreement with Couch 'Em. I think history will look back on whether or not we won a bowl game, not which one we played at. If JJ has some insight into a long term plan here that I ain't seeing (which I can guarantee he does), then so be it. I don't know jack about college football. My only gripe is I can go to Memphis, I can't go to Hawaii. That sucks Anyway, see you guys at Marshall
