All schools have players that become ineligible. It simply occurs. It has occurred at SMU in the past, but the performance was simply such that no one was concerned. This is not new to SMU. Jerryl Sasser once responded to his attaining a 3.0 one semester with the statement: "I must not be playing enough basketball." Those words should be etched in stone. Until SMU opens a medical school, I was not going consider ever having surgery in America, anyway.

Must be nice to go to a sub-par academic U...I am sure that will pay dividends for the non-athletes in Ft. Worth...
"Sub-par academic u" - that is why you and your university are being left in the dust. Your c0ckiness out ways your initiative to be proactive. This is not 1970, 1980, 1990, or 2000 anymore. It's 2010 and TCU is ahead of the curve (pun).
Froggie, I like you, but you may want to check the word you typed between "out" and "your" before you say something about academics.

Haha thanks...I'm terrible at spelling (and academics in general), hence my only going to TCU for two years before I wasn't welcome back!

Not a problem - I just found it comical that the misspelling came when discussing academics. I almost thought you might have done it on purpose to see who caught it.

In terms of being sub-par, you are right, TCU is Par now....but still not close to SMU

There will be cases where we lose players to academics. That happens, the keys to avoiding that are (1) Ensuring that the advisers to these students know what they are dealing with when selecting classes; (2) commitment by the players to attend classes and hand in assignments when due and to utilize available tutors (funny, most professors forgive a lot of things if you show up for class and hand in work on time). But if the players come with a sense of entitlement and no desire to hit the books, get help and show up for class, then they made their own beds and deserve to go. I think JJ has made it very clear that he is not going to put up with slackards in academics. He benched Sanders and JWil for that very reason.

I believe you actually meant "out weighs"...but then what do I know...I'm just an SMU grad.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Nick, there are over 4,200 "degree-issuing institutions" in the United States (that number is rapidly decreasing) so to say that TCU is merely par (which, by definition, means average or standard) would suggest that the school is somewhere around the middle of the pact, or around 2,100. The US News & World Report issues a heavily biased annual ranking of 1,400 colleges and universities and ranks TCU 110 and SMU 68. And while I despise the rankings, I do acknowledge them and to say that TCU is "not close" to SMU is...outlandish. If TCU had a med or law school (one of the heaviest factors in the ranking) we'd easily be just as low or lower than SMU. That, coupled with an outstanding campus (yes, I know), high endowment, and larger application pool (almost twice as large!) and lower acceptance rate makes TCU a wonderful place, just like SMU! I love the ponies and I love the frogs. We're on the same side! Change the world.

OK let's get a decision...I suggest pistols at 30 paces.
