TCU goes independent and plays all other sports in the Southland. Book it. Done.

There is nowhere for TCU to go. They're stuck. Forget the Big East or Big 12. That is just stupid. They're nowhere near the top for consideration for those conferences. They've cast their lot with the MWC. The ball is squarely in BYU's court, not TCU's.

This is ridiculous.

The MWC is a stinkin' joke now.

The MWC is no closer now to an auto-invite than the rest of the have-nots and it is ludicrous for SMU to want to join that bunch of losers!

SMU needs to "Just Win, Baby"!

Winning is the most important thing now and then we become more attractive to all when the inevitable next shake up comes down!

Wanting to join the MWC is a no win proposition for SMU!

Stop all the TCU envy; the MWC is nothing but a blackhole for us!

With Utah gone (2 BCS appearances), the MWC still has Boise and TCU (3 BCS appearances between them) and if the goal is to get to 12 and play a championship game to earn a spot at the BCS table, then obviously you add the best 3 programs you can find and based on their recent past, Houston, along with Fresno and Nevada...gives the MWC the strongest 12 they can put together. It makes sense from the standpoint of adding the Houston market to a potential TV deal.

Meanwhile, what does CUSA do? We obviously need 12 members and candidates probably include La Tech or someone from the SunBelt. Like it or not, losing Houston (an original CUSA football member as I recall) would definitely hurt...but may also give SMU a better shot at that unbeaten season we may eventually need to gain credibility.

Utah will never sniff another BCS Bowl bid unless they do it this year because in the future they have to play with the Big Boys.

I still can't believe they got an invite to play with the PAC!

Boise JC played in the WAC when they got their invites.

Patterson has one which as I recall equals JJ's one!

The WAC and Boise JC may get the only Non-AQ bid this year, and only if they beat Va Tech, which is unlikely.

TCU is dead meat!

Boise would have to beat Va Tech (one of the contenders for the ACC title) on the east coast and Oregon State, a contender in the PAC 10. If they run the table and with their pre-season ranking, they absolutely deserve to be in a BCS game.

Unfortunately, they could run off 5 consecutive undefeated seasons and never sniff a national championship game the way things are set up now. This is a program not too many years removed from I-AA status. They've come a long way.

Don't bet against Utah. They whipped a Bama team that was not vastly inferior to the bunch that won the national championship last year.

I don't see how Houston leaving CUSA is anything other than a serious blow not only to our conference but to SMU. We will have been passed up again and our conference will have lost one of its few consistently solid programs. We would then be replacing them with a WAC also-ran which does nothing to boost our national prestige.

In all honesty, I think that BYU stays put in the MWC and the MWC adds Utah State to get to 12. An underwhelming move for sure but probably more appealing for BYU who is the real lynchpin in this entire ordeal.

NOT SO FAST!!!!!

Pac-10 leaders haven't actually voted on accepting Colorado and Utah. Former UCLA chancellor is campaigning for university leaders to block the expansion.

.....No way this happens. But if it did, well....

And then we can move Arizona and Arizona State back to the WAC where they belong!

Craig Thompson and MWC made a preemptive strike to bring in Fresno State and Nevada. As a result, they may have prevented BYU from acting on their intent to go independent. They had to know that FSU and Nevada jumping after Boise State could be fatal to the WAC.

So, if CT is playng hardball why not injure CUSA at the same time, which reduces the power of two conferences and clearly moves MWC into a class all, while positioning it for an auto-bid if the Cotton Bowl is added as a fifth BCS Bowl. So, strengthen the Texas region and the Central Time Zone by adding both Houston and SMU and pick off Utah State at the same time. Now BYU sees the logic of committing to MWC long term.

So, you now have a 14 team league:

West:
BSU (ID)
BYU (UT)
USU (UT)
Nevada (NV)
UNLV (NV)
Fresno State (CA)
San Diego St. (CA)

Central:
Colo State (CO)
Air Force (CO)
New Mexico (NM)
Wyoming (WY)
TCU (TX)
Houston (TX)
SMU (TX)

Travel costs appear better for everyone, which helps non-revenue sports and you have access to some very good markets in CA, NV, UT, CO and TX. I have never heard 14 mentioned as a desireable conference number, but it helps MWC distance itself from all other non-BCS conferences, while waiting for the change of an extra Bowl.

Not as dumb as one might think. Solid presence in the Texas, California and emerging markets. But it sure would kill off a lot of bowl games which rely on WAC, MWC and CUSA matchups. The biggest problems is that its still unstable-what happens when Leftover Big 12 teams coming look for a home. I think more likely the schools would split North/South

Why would the MWC want to bring in more teams that would further diminish the existing teams revenue with no BCS AQ possibility? Seems unlikely.

Well it would have to based on a TV Network's decision to pay more just as with every other expansion. But consider also that the MWC would have busted their competition for the TV slots that have to be filled. Less conferences-more access-presumably more money.

This would be bad, I believe, for us.

If they couldn't get into the PAC 10 then CU would find a way to quickly mend fences with the Big XII. That would leave one open spot, and, frankly, Utah would fit nicely into that open spot and they would take it in a millisecond. The Big XII is now back on track and that leaves the same MWC we are looking at now only without the Big XII wild card. That means one spot left for a potential BCS conference, and we are considered by many to be no higher than second on their wish list, if that.

Understand: Those two Big XII spots are what constitutes the real wildcard in all of this.
Whichever schools, if any, get a spot will ENORMOUS ramifications for us, with the idea that the conference could still fall apart creating absolute chaos.
