SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessIt's not delusional to expect us to recruit texas, to have everyone on the staff bust their [deleted], to not fck with colors and traditions, to not entertain offers night before bowl games and then make it public, esp when maryland was never going to give him the kind of money he thinks he is worth...
Its not delusional to keep guys eligible, esp guys key to the roster.... Those are my expectations at 2.75 a year....
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For Success
Honestly, if you don't like the criticism, or scrutiny, or believe those who levy it to be complaining, whiny, whack-jobs, then go sit in a cave with your fingers in your ears and save yourself a lot of pain and misery. With great success and high expectations comes enhanced scrutiny, and deservedly so. Again, this isn't the magical world of the mustached brothers where we just hope and pray that somehow, despite their inability to manage a division one team and the school continually cutting off their legs from under them, that just somehow they scratch and claw their way to 6 wins and a bowl birth in the R+L Carriers Bowl against some P.O.S. Sun Belt team. This is 2.75 million a year, and a heck of a track record, and darn near cart blanche authority with the expectation of creating a successful, sustainable program at the highest level that will allow us to be relevant in the future of big-time college athletics. If that isn't the goal, well then we ought to just shut it down now because we're just wasting time, effort, and a lot of money. RGV, Mex, Nick, Stallion, and other "conspiracy whack jobs" levying concerns and/or criticism aren't dealing in some some mystery land in another universe. We have legitimate concerns about the steps being taken to achieve the goal.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessWe are a rag tag bunch...
Most just want the best for SMU....despite my new tag as a doom and gloom guy, I was a major JJ backer, however its a dynamic marketplace....there are still things we can do to get back on the right track.. It won't stop my, wife, and 14 month old from flying to about every game....
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessGo fck yourself...
I only used 3 periods, Is that better?
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessSorry, I guess it was a little confusing using your quote to frame my point. I picked it to mesh the two and basically say I'm on the exact same page as you. Seems a little confusing now that I look at it.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For Success
This was not directed at STL... totally directed at ponyboy...sorry for the confusion...
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessYou're a good guy, Nick. I need to modify my means of delivering a message, even when I believe I'm right. Apologies.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessI appreciate your optimism ponyboy
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessTo whom much is given, much is expected.
we all want JJ to do well and leave a legacy. IF that legacy happens to be moving more toward the model espoused by, among others, Stallion, then that's a huge accomplishment. IF that legacy happens to be one in which the high point was the 2009 Hawaii Bowl win, we'll be disappointed. IF that legacy happens to be one where a successful model can't be sustained, we'll be disappointed. Will June Jones be our (I hate to say this) Gary Patterson? Or will he be our Dan Hawkins, who left Boise State in the hands of someone who perpetuated and built on the prior success? Or will we wind up like Ball State, who had an undefeated regular season under Brady Hoke, who departed and then a couple of years later BSU goes 2-10 and 4-8? Again, not a one of us doesnt want JJ and the boys to go 10-2 next season.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessShti...I'll take 8-4
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessI want June to continue to bring us back into the national conversation. I want Top 25, I want conference championships, I want to position ourselves for a move to a BCS conference. As long as all traditions aren't gutted, as long as we don't sell ourselves to the devil, I am fine with however he wants to get this done. Recruit Texas, don't recruit Texas. I don't care. Just get us to that level.
I don't want to hear yet about getting to TCU's level. There are dozens upon dozens of NCAA football teams trying to accomplish that feat, i.e. all teams except Auburn. Let's just see if we can sniff Top 25 first.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For Successthe 10-2 was hyperbole fellas.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessPonyboy is the same type of fan that disputed and criticised me for outlining a decade ago exactly how TCU was leaving SMU in the Dust(I predicted a 5 year winning streak by TCU based on the differences between TCU(Franchione) and SMU recruiting models and results) -now when we have in fact made the needed institutional changes he wants to glorify the "miracle" that June Jones has achieved with the changed institutional model and argue that we can't ever hope to compete with TCU. He's a waste of breath-just understand he knows little about College Football. If TCU can consistently compete against and beat the BCS in the WAC, CUSA and MWC then SMU can compete and beat TCU in the damn Big East nobody cares about. The key is competitive recruiting, player retention and player development just as it was for TCU.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessStallion will be Stallion. I appreciate his insight and value his opinion.
SMU Looks West For Plan For SuccessStallion is right but you need to remember TCU got Tomlinson. We got BM (Bo Levi). You can't credit froggy for that, it was luck.
Big East 2012! "I think Couchem is right."
