Lei-ing around (topics merged)Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: June lose the leiIts just a good luck piece geez !!
Re: June lose the leiJust cannot understand this desire to have June in the generic coach attire. Glad he goes for a unique look. Think he is building a special culture that will soon have us competing even up with the big boys-
Cannot believe how quick some are to minimize how much this program has improved thanks to the coaches and the seriously strong support from the circle of champions.
Re: June lose the leiWell, my post from last night on this thread got deleted, maybe because of the attire I suggested he could wear. But the long and short of it is that I really could care less what the dude wears, so long as we are winning (even when it's an ugly win like yesterday). I go to the games to watch our team win, and not to see a fashion show by June Jones and the coaching staff.
Re: June lose the leiCannot believe how quick some are to minimize how much this program has improved thanks to the coaches and the seriously strong support from the circle of champions.[/quote] My opinion of the lei in Dallas TX has nothing to do with minimizing this program, Junes coaching abilities, or my support of SMU football.
Re: June lose the lei
Can't say I am crazy about the lei either, but this is an excellent response. I do know this....nobody would fly 4,000 miles to give me some flowers.
Re: June lose the leii can appreciate what June has done for us - and I also appreciate what we have done for ourselves by hiring him and by fixing some of the recruiting issues that caused the drought we were in forever.
June needs to understand some things as well. We are proud of our university and our state. We can respect his talent and his quirkiness without needing to kiss his hiney. We like our mascot and think if his players dont want to run in behind Peruna he should tell them to man up and see if they can play with 50% of the enthusiasm Peruna shows. When we win a couple of championships he gets a minority vote on mascots. We dont want to be reminded every game that he loves hawaii - we would like to see him embrace our customs and traditions also. Is that too much to ask? He made the decision to come here - with that should come a respect and embrace of SMU and Texas. We could wear his shuburry during pre-game and then respectively set it down so we dont have to watch the dang thing flop around all game long. Like the dude a ton. Tired of his weekly public botany experiment.
Re: June lose the leilike I said on the other lei thread if we win I think he should wear one every game. That being repeated, my guys still make fun of him when he wears one. Maybe we just have a bigger sense of humor than others.
Re: June lose the leiWell gostangs, then man up and get a group together to start giving him gifts every week that represent our local culture. By him wearing a lei, it doesn't show a lack of respect for SMU, its fans, or Dallas, it shows respect for people who were kind enough to come see him and bring a gift.
The day he stops wearing a lei that someone gives him he is likely to offend a person he knows very well. Not sure about you, but I'd rather risk offending some random person in a faceless crowd that I may never speak to ever in my life vs. risking offending someone that I know personally. You can't please everyone all of the time, and I'm sure he learned that lesson a long time ago.
Re: June lose the leiNot a fan of it either however I hear daily that we have way too many lei offs so maybe we should just grin and bear it.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: June lose the leii don't think it is that hard to understand that when you wear a lei constantly and talk about playing the Hawaii bowl constantly, then it gets a bit old and send a message that he would rather be somewhere else. I dont think every time a coach gets a gift he is obligated to wear it. He is smart enough to figure out how to politely tell them he apprciates the gift and will wear it out on the town when they go hula dance or something.
Re: June lose the leiNot saying I don't understand your point, but for every person that agrees with you, there is likely one like me who could care less, and another that thinks its cool that he wears it or that he's showing respect for a friend. June has obviously made his choice for his own reasons, and he's not changing. Either you get used to it, or you just let it irritate you week in and week out.
Re: June lose the leiNot totally apparently
Re: June lose the lei
No Mrydel, No. Bad boy.
Re: June Jones' lei
And I suppose you think that the geldings are "mojo" too? I don't see it as being "mojo" but as a sign that he rather be elsewhere.
