smu is about as religiously affiliated as stanford
usc used to be owned by the methodists.
i think they have a problem with byu in particular.

...and Baylor. Everyone loves Methodists because they have very few lunatics embarrassing themselves

as a former baptist who is now a methodist i can say without a doubt that i am not completely sure what the methodists believe. i know for a fact that the baptists think i am on very thin ice.

Are you sure?

The name is on the front door
There is a Methodist theological school as part of the university, who is there to educate and train Methodist clergy
I believe that there is a certain number of Methodist clergy who have to be a part of the Regents, or Board of Governers, or whatever (If anybody can clarify, please do so)

It offers a secular education, but is a Methodist school

I think you meant we are no more methodist than USC... Stanford was started by a choo-choo man.

Secularism is one thing. But in the liberal arts arena at least, SMU is no different from any standard non-religious-chartered university in offering a primarily left leaning, decidedly anti-christian worldview. I am going to guess this is the case for the arts school as well. And, even with our nominally Christian education, Perkins is hardly mainstream Methodism.

Great-that's the way an academic school should be-nobody is stopping you from going to Sunday School. Better yet go to Oral Roberts, Liberty or Baylor if you don't like it.

smu in no way offers a christian oriented education except in the theology school. we are not baylor or liberty or any of those other places. you would never know smu was owned by the methodists which is as it should be. the methodists are doing their best to offer a nonbiased education.

As one former admission's director used to say when he'd go to a Jewish High School, SMU has a religious history, just like Duke, just like USC, just like Princeton. Just because we have a seminary on campus doesn't make our undergraduate curriculum, Christian. FYI, Duke and Princeton still have schools of theology which are highly regarded in some circles.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

You consistently misunderstand this. I didn't say whether I like it or not. I just said we're not a religious school -- we're much closer to being anti-religious, just like the overwhelming majority of what goes for higher education in this country.
