Besides a string of 10+ win seasons, there are some inherent reasons. They didn't suffer a death penalty and shame to the fanbase. Fort Worth is a little slower, more loyal kind of place than Dallas. More TCU graduates come from Texas and stay in Texas after graduating i think, while lots of SMU alums leave dallas. TCU has a better fanbase no doubt, but we showed a little something in our game with them last year. We need to beat them on the scoreboard next week. We are still looking for a quality win and no real momentum can start until we get a real quality win.

I agree with your points but you are really just pointing out why a BCS conference shouldn't pick us.

TCU better pray to God they are not left without a chair this go-round and don't have to go back to the MWC with hat in hand. I agree, those 23K season ticket holders are buying the promise of getting to play legit programs. When their conference schedule again includes New Mexico, Wyoming, and UNLV they'll be back down to 17-20K.
Back off Warchild seriously.

To be honest doesn't CUSA have teams that more locals should care about then the MWC.

MWC will welcome them back with open arms. Maybe the B12 will hold off long enough for the other programs to find homes and we get in by default.

Oh sure there are a few USFs but the its true for the teams that earned BCS inclusion. SMU doesn't measure up on either factor. We are really hoping for lightening to strike. We haven't earned a thing yet. You guys keep saying that attendance will improve but the teams that have earned BCS inclusion PROVED that they could have good attendance BEFORE inclusion.

What teams have been added to BCS conferences from non-BCS conferences?

Utah
TCU
USF
UConn
Cincinanti
Louisville

any others? OF those, Utah and TCU definitely earned their way in. Louisville may have earned their way in, I don't remember when their recent run of good years was. USF, Uconn, and Cincinanti didn't have dominant on field performances at the D1A level until after they joined the BCS. Whether they ahve been legitimately dominant ever is up for debate.

Thats just it, I don't think "should or shouldn't" is really the question. Its simply who is sitting where when the music stops. Plenty of companies have gone public based on potential with no real earnings. This is the same thing, who can make their pitch and attract investors? The question is, can we win/compete and if we do, what is our level of support and interest around the country (TV profile, not just bodies in the stadium). Heck, people liking the uniform/helmet counts for something. We have to win a big game. TCU borders on a must win to me unfortunately, which is why i hate that the QB position is so screwed up right now.

Very interesting. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Marketing and winning. It's that simple. June is working on the winning, now the school needs to throw down on an all out marketing blitz. Where are the billboards? radio spots? TV promos? Pay sports radio and TV guys to talk up SMU. I know we have the show on Foxsports, but it is kinda low budget and the voice over gets everything wrong.

Come on Orsini, your better than this!

You have to be a bean counter when you have such a small budget

So you mean we didn't beat Northwestern in Detroit last week?

I think we should announce the expansion of Ford Stadium in anticipation of gaining AQ status, whether or not we actually set those plans in motion...just to get some national attention. Why not? Only TCU will care whether we follow through with that or not. Talk a big game SMU.

Oh and BTW SMU in its third year of relative success is about 40% below the fan base TCU had in its 3rd year under Franchione. Time to stop making excuses and rationally compare.

When we earn a top 5 ranking, win a rose bowl, and get admitted to a BCS conference, I expect our season tickets to increase drastically, more so than theirs even
