Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction Thread1980, I appreciate what you are saying.
SMUPhil is right. Thank you good sir. PlanoStang can suck it. I'm actually an outstanding teammate and was the captain for two of the three varsity sports I played in high school, which I elected to by my teammates. Being in a lockerroom and on the team vs being a fan sitting in the stands is so different it's comical for you to make that assumption. I was expressing an objective opinion. How does that even make me a bad fan? I'm taking off work and flying halfway across the country to go this game. I will cheer my heart out and pray we win, I just don't think we will from a purely rationale perspective. I'm a numbers guy, its just sort of how I work. Even the biggest sunshiners on this board have almost all conceded that we're going to lose to A&M if Johnny Football is playing. Are they awful "teammates" too? If ya'll don't want to people to express their honest opinions for stuff like this, start a thread called "SMU will beat Texas Tech By...Number answers only" I'll even go do it for you if you would like BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadSMU is better at RB, QB, LB, DB, and S.
TT is better at OL, DL, and WR. If Tech was a traditional team, they would run a ball control offense behind the offensive line, to spare the QB and wear SMU down on a hot day. But that isn't KK's style. I think this game is a lock to go over. That said, I expect both teams to struggle a little offensively at the beginning of the game. The TT DL will disrupt the SMU offense from getting in a rhythm, while the SMU receivers drop a couple of passes. Meanwhile, the TT QBs will take a little while to get started, as Tech is surprised by the speed of the SMU secondary and is forced to play it a little closer to the vest than they want to. Either the SMU offense will get on track first and put too much pressure on the young Tech QBs than they can handle, or the Tech offense takes the first step forward and the SMU defense gets worn out in the heat. I will go with home field advantage and an experienced QB, 38 - 24 SMU. But I am really wary that if the SMU OL and DL don't play well (I think we are better on DL than people think, and the OL is definitely better than last year), the score might flip. I don't see this as being a close game if SMU wins. The Tech QBs will force things and turn the ball over I think. The SMU offense was really bad last year - 90th in total offense, 115 in pass efficiency. The offense will be much improved this season, which will allow us to turn opposing mistakes into points without relying on the defense to score it for us.
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadHappy to report not everybody thinks TTech is so much more talented than we are. EA Sports computer figures it's 41 - 34. SMU wins! I have no idea how EA works or if it has any value at all, but would like to have someone clue me in. Luckily, college football is about more than talent - coaching, play calling, heart, lucky breaks, injuries, turnovers, referee calls, etc. That's why we can lose to Tulane and Rice, yet beat Tulsa and Fresno.
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadI don't think you can clearly say that SMU is better than Tech in the running game. Tech has 2 experienced backs who have 850 yards rushing (5.8 ypc) and another who had an outstanding freshman season (Honorable Mention Big 12 Freshman of the Year) averaging almost 5 yards per carry (2011-hurt in 2012) ) in Big 12 play. SMU has a kid with great potential who has 0 yards rushing on 0 carries in College Football. I think Tech will substantially outrush SMU in this game

Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadYou mean in BCS Football? Shead, certainly has experience with college football. Or are you talking about Prescott.
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction Thread
Great that you are flying in for the game. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to be critical of you personally. And, I wasn't always just a fan of the game - so I understand your point. You can't win if you don't think you will win going into a game. As a player, if you don't think you have a chance, you're going to lose, period. As for A&M, I'm not conceding anything, although I see the argument. I will be in College Station as a believer. I've watched too many SMU games to realize that virtually anything can happen: I was in Little Rock to see the after death penalty seniors defeat Arkansas... and at Ownby to watch them defeat Houston... (while I gathered thousands of signatures from fans to block Ken Pye's goal of shutting down our program - when I had Lamar Hunt's I knew we were saved); and later in the Alamo Dome in S.A. The pundits were proven wrong. What Coach Gregg did was truly amazing and inspiring. Nevertheless, you have good points. About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadBlackoutpony battle royale part II??? I really hope we beat tech good lord I'm pumped!
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadTech DL suffered some losses. They may not be as good as JasonB thinks imo. Their OL suffered a loss or 2 as well I believe. Our practice reports are very encouraging about our DL and OL. BEAT TECH.

Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction ThreadWe score first, we win. All about the first quarter. That simple.
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction Thread
Well said but not necessarily accurate. I just hope GG is more accurate this year than last. Throwing picks would not be good. Also our D Line will be put to an early test to see how strong they are. Coach Mason seems to be confident but we will see once the rubber meets the road Friday. I am hoping for a victory but with all the unknowns on both sides no one knows what will happen. #HammerDown
Re: OFFICIAL: SMU vs. TTU Prediction Thread1980 I was agreeing with your earlier posts (for the most part), the rant was towards PlanoStang. You make lots of good points with good demeanor. When I played, it was always with a quiet confidence (I hate cockiness with a passion) and knew that I was going to take care of what I had to and had faith in my teammates that they would too. And sometimes, we would shock the world (see what I did there
![]() Anyway, once again, you make really good points that I agree with and can't fault you for any of them. Believing and having faith your team will win is a great thing. Just trying to degrade someone who doesn't have the same opinion as you is childish. On a side note, thank you for what your efforts to save SMU football. Really I can't thank you enough. Lamar Hunt was a good man. God rest his soul. Last edited by blackoutpony on Tue Aug 27, 2013 10:52 am, edited 1 time in total.
