That's the point if this conversation: the coach matters.
People are acting like the program is in a position to hire anybody else and win and it's not. Even a better than average coach is going to have problems winning here.
You are right. The program needs a bright coach in terms of game management and play calling who also hires a staff that excels in recruiting. On top of that, it would be nice if the coach took time to involve the local community to build our fan base.
If we hired Ellis Johnson, we would take a step back.
