Wasn't this the old Magnolia League idea?

What has Rice done to merit 50,000 people showing up to watch them play on a friday night?

It took TCU 10 years to get to 45,000 average for most games. They used to only bring 40-45 whenever they played a big game like Utah, BYU or Tech...their home attendance early in the 2000s was around the 20s.

SMU
UNT
Rice
Houston
UTSA
Texas State
UTEP
NMSU

Would that fill the stadium?

What stadium?

We've averaged about 12,000 paid fans in the stands in the AAC during last 2 years-forget about the ridiculous tickets distributed number listed in the box score

I still don't understand that mentality. The American is a really nice conference with a ton of potential.

I thought the Magnolia idea was:

SMU
TCU
Baylor
Rice
Tulane
Vanderbilt
Duke
Wake Forest

Southern private school league. Still kind of think it would be sort of cool.

Potential to do what exactly?

Wrong again-TCU averaged 32,664 in 2000 playing in the watered down WAC 2.0

Clearly the "best of the rest" with the most resources and if these schools could get their football act together they would get the bid to the access bowl every season.

But it not a conference to draw attendance or draw large opposition travel.

But for now I agree that it is the best option to give us an opportunity for a good bowl. I guess first we need to figure out how to win a game.

There are very good programs and programs with potential to be very competitive.

ECU, UCF seem solid in almost all phases. They have the facilities, the crowds and the teams are good on the field. Cincy and Houston have facilities and field performance figured out and are growing their fanbases. Memphis seems to have figured it out on the field and have good facilities so they are the newcomers into the AAC cream of the crop. The others have work to do, but the AAC can become a very solid conference if the schools continue to improve. For the AAC to be very succesful, we need SMU and Memphis to become elite on the field and join UCF, Houston, Cincy and ECU in the upper tier. We need USF and Temple to build up and be a solid contender as well. Tulane needs work but they have started moving the right way with facilities.

Correct which means its potential is severely limited. It's really just another C-USA. We'll be here in 10 years still talking about "potential".

as I said competitively its fine-but it requires that our fans fill the seats which they won't consistently do. Hence the need for the stimulus package called "Employ a Fan to Sit in our Seats Promotion"

Stupid. Compete for an access bowl or playoff spot and you will not be able to fit anyone at ford by how full it will be.

In the worst case we will fill up vs Big 12 opponents with our fans mostly and bring 25k to AAC games. We should be able to bring 32k.. UCF brings 40k to every game
