Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...
I believe those low punts were on purpose as he was kicking into a 25 mph wind. Several of those with the wind were very nice with decent hang time. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...I appreciate the clarification. I had my windows and door closed so was not aware of the wind. I was curious as to why his punts seemed so much lower than before.

Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...i know its frustration speaking but you guys cannot and should not give up on and kick to the curb every existing player in this program. The new coach won't, not if he is a good one. The new coach will understand that its almost unprecedented to play most of the season with a lame duck situation. And guys, playing with a lame duck staff is far worse at SMU than most schools for one huge reason: we don't have the atmosphere and fan support to sustain these guys emotionally through the hell they have been through. These kids were left on an island for 3 months. Mason did his best but it was a no win situation. In hindsight, I think we should have allowed/compelled June to finish this year. Injuries were also absolutely brutal this year. I will list some young guys with potential and i think they all happen to be from Texas and including from some very proud high school programs that you should not give up on. Some have gotten some experience before they should have had to: Mason Gentry (RS Freshman), Gaines, Minor, Evan Brown, Pursely, Barns, Epley, Gresham, Durall, Sutton, Ry Malone, Severt, Ngalo, Colbert, Nabushosi, Nick Horton, Ced Lancaster, Jesse Montgomery, McCarty, Chamugua, Hyder, Myers, D Stewart, Matt Davis, Nick Reed, Lagasse, Richardson.
Its been ugly, and maybe recruiting did suffer from the ASU thing, but we are only one year removed from a 5 win season, that to me should have easily been 6 wins by beating Rutgers in that crazy game. Also had a chance to win at Cincy. I just think its probably not has bad as it looks right now, once the black cloud of uncertainty is removed. Strenght and conditioning seemed to break down as well as several other areas that can fixed and make the existing talent look better, and there is some here no doubt.
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...I think we have some players which is why I mentioned in another thread that this will be the first game that their new coach will have an opportunity to watch them play. Audition time.
I am aware there will be much more evaluation but they should be inspired more than usual in Saturday. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...Everyone knows the new guy won't be able to get rid of everyone (unfortunately). We'll still have to deal with a lot of them for the first two seasons which is why we we'll be bad to mediocre until Morris' third season at the earliest. As for last season we could have just as easily won only three games.

I think we saw a little bit of that Friday with the news breaking Thursday night. But yeah, by next Saturday it sounds like there will be no doubt. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...I hope it starts by thinning this current class to just a few and rebuilding. We have 3+ months.

Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...I do think we have some players but I am going to trust the new staff rather than insist they take my recommendations.

Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...
Because of scholly limits and the late start on recruiting, I doubt that he intentionally runs that many players off this year. With normal attrition, he should have his 20 -25 scholarships to give. Running off more players leaves him short of bodies. Basically, Year 1 will be a tryout for anyone with any potential. I predict: 1) OL: he will try to use a new weight program to see who is salvageable. Look for him to convert at least 1 to DT to give them some size. Look for at least 1 Juco/graduate transfer. 2) LB - this group will get hit hard by graduation. He will try to keep everyone. 3) RB - he has to keep everyone 4) WR - some of them will be converted to scat backs in his system. The rest will be one a 1 year tryout. 5) QB - I think 2 QB's leave voluntarily. 6) DL - June left them short of players. They try to keep everyone Current Roster sorted by class: http://espn.go.com/college-football/tea ... experience Last edited by Digetydog on Sat Nov 29, 2014 9:37 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Of course! You have to admit we did hang with Houston yesterday... Shake It Off Moody
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...Hoop,
This team is unprecedented in its ineptitude. Sagarin has us ranked #192, I spot BELOW Daa school Charlotte, who has a 5-6 record. The 2 schools ranked directly below us, Furman & Portland St, are both Daa schools with 3-9 records!! Sorry, not buying the injury argument, this took YEARS in the making. CM should filet this team like an east Texas catfish.
Re: Cupboard and Shopping List...
It will take 2-3 recruiting classes to fix it. That can't be avoided. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
