Good point.

We could add more statues.

Aren't memorials for people who have left the earthly bonds?

Thank you. I was trying to figure out when Gaines got hurt. I do believe he must have thought Gresham by mistake.
I was thinking of Gresham, my mistake.

That's crazy. My son, who played football with him in high school, said he was not surprised he could make the transition.

Ditto. Letting players earn the right to wear his number is very cool.

What about retiring the jersey. Should that honor continue to be precluded from him? You know you can do both.

Retired numbers, IMHO, are dead numbers. Great numbers should be used.

We don't retire numbers. Not sure any football team does. They are all needed on a roster of over 90 athletes.

I was not entirely surprised that Kaufman showed well at H-back although my knowledge of him is limited to what I read in Texas Football and some other article that noted he had been a good HS basketball player.
But I'm curious. In the current offensive system are H-backs listed in the roster as RBs, TEs, or WRs? Although I know H-back may not be his final position he is still shown as a TE on SMU Mustangs this morning.

Are you and Smusic purposely misreading my statement? I said retired jersey not number. SMU does reite jerseys so the number can still be used. SMU retired Don Meredith's jersey in 2008. See the below link for retired SMU jersies. http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/m-foo ... 08aaa.html

It will happen, and when it does, all will say it is long over due. Until then, I personally think the honor they are now using, which I would hope will always continue, is a nice and fitting tribute.

The H-Back is kind of a flex position. Sometimes it will line up as a second back in the backfield, other times a fullback, other times a true H-Back (outside tackle but back off the line), sometimes a true TE, and then some times split wide as a 4th WR. Some players who play that spot are going to be listed at RB and others at TE. But most of the players who are going to primarily play H-Back are going to be listed at TE. When you hear Morris talk about being excited about the versatility of Line, it is because LIne can play any of those roles of the H-Back. So, when Line is in the game, the other team doesn't know if he is going to line up as a true RB or in one of those myriad of H-Back roles. If Gaines and Line are both in the game with another RB, we could be splitting Gaines out as a third WR and Line at FB with no TE, or we could go to 4 wides with Line as a slot, or we could go with a double TE set with Line and Gaines on the edges. Lots of flexibility.
