Dan Mullen was just let go this afternoon. Any interest from us or possibly from him?

We gambled on Larry Brown, given his past. It seemed to work. I say we gamble again, go with Art Briles (preferably), or Tom Herman, and have some supports in place to monitor their activities.

Briles did a tremendous job in his time at Baylor, as much as I hate to admit it. It couldn't hurt to bring him in to interview him.

Good lord, no to Art Briles. No to people who covered up crimes against students. No to people who covered up assistant coaches' domestic violence. No to racists, no to self-promoters, no to lying petulant has-beens. No to blamers, no to bullies, no to people who lock players in sheds.

Garden variety a**h***s are fine because that just kind of goes with the territory when it comes to successful coaches. It's all about boundaries.

It was mentioned on 247 PonyStampede, that tcu will have to pay SMU a buyout for Sonny Swoon. It was also suggested, that money could go towards the buyout of Jeff Traylor....just a thought.

No to coaches who say they followed SMU as their favorite team in the 80s :!: :!:
Interview B.S. from Chad & Sonny.

Especially NO to those who say they wanted to go to a SMU game for their birthday :!: :!:
I bet you were heartbroken when Leach did his magic.

Of course exceptions granted to SMU graduate former players.
May the forth be with us.

IMO the big issue and big question is which type of coach will we be hiring? Are we going to swing for the rafters with a big name well known coach like we did with LB or are we going to go for a k-mart quality second class, unknown person from an unknown probably directional school? My guess is that our inept, incompetent a.d. will go for the latter and we will suffer another total restart with the fball program having resulting in fewer fans at the game.
Can you spell 'lack of commitment"? I knew you could.

I don't think Lil Rick will swing the big hammer in this hiring. I am hopeful at this point, of a good and relatively quick hire. Our powerbrokers, have had a good idea this was probably going to happen, for some time now.

Grab the cheapest possible up and comer with Texas ties. Pay him the bare minimum ~$800,000. Give him $3-4 million per season for NIL. It’s all about the players i.e. recruiting so give them the bag!

Art Briles....really?!? I still wouldn’t send a female family member to Baylor. What he allowed to happen under his watch was criminal and SICK. There are other coaches (better) that don’t condone his players being rapists. Move on.

Sadly, that is so SMU. Hence we start all over again with two or three disastrous seasons so we can lose more fans and generate a lot less interest in the program. No thanks.
We need a big name who will win and generate national interest not some dudley doolittle from east directional high.

The SMU thing is to grab an average coach and pay him the highest G5 salary. We paid Chad Morris more than Houston paid Tom Hermann and Tulsa Philip Montgomery. Houston locked in Major Applewhite because he wouldn't leave and guess what, he was mediocre and so they ran him off. Realize that we are not even a top 50 program in college football right now as we are in a G5 conference so ALL of the desirable coaches will move on after a couple years at SMU if they are successful. No proven big shot is coming here unless it is a Larry Brown situation and those are once in a lifetime opportunities as there are only a couple Larry Brown types. I'd rather invest in our facilities and paying the actual players. Whether or not we are successful we will have to replace our coaching staff every 4 seasons. Miami did it very effectively for 20 years winning 5 national championships! It can be done, I just think we need a new AD because ours is as clueless as they come.

I'd be OK with either Herman or Sanders, especially if we retain Samples.
