Faced with a second-and-10 at the 45, Palmer completed a pass to receiver Jayson Boyd near the Mustangs' sideline. Boyd appeared to be stripped of the ball by free safety Joe Sturdivant. Cornerback Alvin Nnabuife recovered for SMU. The officials ruled it an incompletion, although replays showed Boyd taking two steps after catching the ball.

"Yes, it looked like a fumble," Bennett said.

Like I said earlier, the refs were killing us. It may have not made any difference in the final outcome of the game, but it certainly kept us away from any momentum. Lady luck was not smiling on us last night at all.
