Fort Worth BowlModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower On this we do agree. And for all the smack, I do actually understand your disappointment. I just think it is cute that you guys formed a bowl with a tie to your conference and you can not keep from going to it.[/quote]
True...I think we were all hoping that we would only have to play in the FW Bowl sporadically/in down years. Unfortunately, the MWC bowl tie-ins are just awful and we seem to have no other options. I wasn't sold on the MWC from the start...
True but you stand for the same line of reasoning that TCU deserves sooooo much more, therefore we will do whatever and dump on whomever to get what we deserve (or at least try to get it) and when things don't work out you want your rivals whom you ditched to understand? Get over yourselves.
![]() Do you guys not dump on UNT (and TCU after your win over us last year) in order to move up in the world of college football? It's all part of the game...we all want more for our team. And you are really generalizing when you say "you stand for the same line of reasoning that TCU deserves sooooo much more...". I do not think we deserve so much more...we have been very fortunate to enjoy the success we've had over the last few years and most of us don't want to fall back to where we were before 1998. Believe it or not, there are some realistic frogs out there who you might even like if you sat down and had a beer (or 10) them! ![]()
Outside of the poor bowl tie-ins, I'm still pleased with our decision to leave CUSA.
Congrats to Reed for being civil, but too many posters here don't get it. And after reading this thread, go Owls! They keep their damn mouth shut and I hope they end the Ponies magical ride.
For all the ponies that have posted on this thread I love the enthusiasm that yall have for your team but don't get way to ahead of yallselfs. TCU is a good team but not worthy of being in a BCS conference and all this talk about yall would want to play a BCS confernece team in your bowl game is ridiculous. How many games did yall lose to non BCS teams??? thoses losses just show yall aren't worthy of a BCS and yall should not want to play a better team than yall in your own bowl game. The point of playing at home for a bowl game is to win...ie Boise State and Hawaii.
For the froggie that pointed out the BIG XII teams yall beat, what happendend after yall beat OU and after yall beat Texas Tech???...A BIG FAT LOSS! ... yall can't beat a good team then lose to your rival or a conference team. Look at what BYU is doing, something you are not; ranked in the top 25 and MWC champs. TCU is not quite there yet for a BCS bowl, ask Gary to call up Urban Meyer or the guys up at Boise and see what they have done to get their programs over the top as a BCS from a non BCS conference. As for what this thread is really about, we won't play in FW because will won't bring in the money they want for hosting that bowl. I know I sure won't get a hotel room or eat in FW prior to the game if we played their. Our only shot is going back to New Orleans.
You are an absolute moron, DallasFrog. This is an SMU board, we don't have to keep our mouth shut on OUR board!!!! You are the one who should probably just go back to your board and talk all you want. How do you know that Rice keeps their mouths shut? Have you been talking trash on their board lately as well??? Disgraceful to your school. Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!
First, as of this moment, TCU is going bowling. SMU is fighting to get into a bowl. One can speculate all one wants but unless SMU wins Saturday, then all this pounding of chests like Tarzan is useless. Frog wants the best bowl they can get and SMU wants the best bowl SMU can get. When one is not a member of the BSC cartel that functions as a monopoly, then one has to accept some limited options. SMU and TCU are both in that situation. SMU needs to take care of business Saturday before speculating on bowls and opponents. Win, and we KNOW who, what, when and where we face our last opponent of the 2006 year.
Maybe I will eat my words, but I believe ESPN would intervene to keep a FW Bowl between SMU and TCU from happening. Why would ESPN want two teams from the same media market to play a bowl game in that same media market? 90% of the people remotely interested will be at the game and not watching on TV. ESPN does pay money for this game. They expect some kind of return.
I fully expect that notwithstanding the conference bowl tie-ins there will be some movement and negotiation to move teams to different bowl games.
these bowls only get the hard core college football fans to watch anyway. At least people across the country would have heard of an SMU/TCU rivalry. Tell me what market would be affected by one decimal whether it was TCU/SMU or TCU/Rice. There ain't one.
11 "yalls" in one post. Impresive.
I think with local media coverage, there would be slightly more hometown casual interest- i.e. people who at least turn the game on as opposed to people who would travel.
Possible, but I think an SMU-TCU matchup would have more selling points than either SMU-Middle Tenn. St. or TCU-Tulsa. -Revenge for last year's game -Old conference mates -Iron Skillet rivalry -Some 80+ straight years of playing (excluding the DP) -SMU in a bowl game period -Possibly even the Mustang Band grass stunt for one of the 30 second puff pieces -1935 1 vs. 2 matchup
I agree w/ this. Although I'm sure TCU would rather be going out of town to a bigger bowl against a bigger opponent, for SMU, I think the FW bowl against TCU would be a good thing. I can't imagine the NO bowl attracting more interest and fans than a game in FW against the Frogs. I agree the local interest alone in this game would be important enough to warrant excitement. I hope its SMU v. TCU in the FW bowl...I just don't know how exciting it would be to go to NOLA (again) and play in the huge Superdome w/ 500 SMU fans there.....
I guess the one thing that the Toads are forgetting here is that they are 3rd in the freaking Mountain West. I don't care if you upset Ohio State and Texas this year if you were unable to beat any school from Utah. You are unranked and have managed to let this great opportunity pass you by. You plau in a conference that has the core of their fans in the following states:
Colorado 4,301,261 Nevada 1,998,257 New Mexico 1,819,046 Utah 2,233,169 Wyoming 493,782 This is about half the size of the state of Texas. Or about 3% of the US population. Then you can assume that Ft.Worth cares a little about the Frogs and somebody in San Diego actually cares about the equivalent of UNT that is San Diego State. This is one of the most sparsely populated and cared about conferences in America. I think the Sunbelt may have a greater population base to draw from. Nobody but the MWC cares about the MWC. The Frogs should be kicking themselves for playing in this conference. Their fans don't care and in most cases have a hard time staying awake for the late starts and ridiculous travel opportunities that they have. Move TCU out of the MWC and back to CUSA and CUSA is actually a better conference top to bottom in football and basketball. Not sure why TCU moved out west but they would at least have a shot of playing an SEC team in a much better bowl than they have a shot at now. Think there might be a reason CUSA has more bowl affiliations than the MWC. So if you are the 3rd team in the MWC you get to play in the Ft. Worth bowl. 4th place gets you the New Mexico bowl. All the bowls that the MWC gets are crap bowls with the Vegas Bowl for the champion. Pretty sad if you ask me. So if we beat Rice and TCU gets invited to play at home or Albuquerque I am guessing that they pick playing at home since it is not Albuquerque. Also, I think TCU would much rather play or sorry butts since they are currently kicking themselves for last year. So an SMU win looks like a Battle for the Iron Skillet despite how disappointed the Frogs are. Class of '91
I don't know if a TCU/SMU bowl game will happen. I don't even know if it should happen. I do know that there is nothing like a rivalry game though, and I for one would love to see it.
God forbid that ESPN "lock in" one of the largest TV markets in America. There are 5million+ people here and if this actually does occur it will be all over local radio, TV, and in the paper. It will build more interest here than if ECU plays New Mexico. Class of '91
