Then you must have missed the opener against Tech (or was it the North Texas game?) Once again, a female Peruna handler couldn't run fast enough and ended up eating Peruna's dust. I'm all for equal opportunity, but don't they test the Peruna handlers before the season to see if they can run fast enough? Not many girls are fast enough to keep up with a pony at full gallup. And yes, to be fair, a lot of guys, myself included, couldn't run that fast, either. Seems like sprinting ability should be a requirement. Back when the ATOs were Peruna handlers, sobriety wasn't a requirement. But those guys could run.
God knows I couldn't keep up. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
I must have missed it. Just seems like someone falling down was the typical not the abberation. Maybe we just have faster handlers than we did a few years ago.
As far as I know they still have tryouts, but the competition isn't that stiff, not too many people clamoring to run with Peruna. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Put me in the blue jersey category. Not only is that the look SMU had in my formative years, I just think blue is a better base color. Red is better as a trim color. If you don't believe me, have you seen the red blazer Orsini has been wearing?
- I love the 1980s look, but the stripes need to match. The helmet had solid stripes, the pants had spaces in between the red and blue stripes. I prefer solid stripes, but either way - as long as they match. - Ron Meyer chose that uniform combination because, for its time, it was flashy. He originally had a red jersey with stripes on the sleeve. They switched to the mesh blue jersey when SMU began playing in Texas Stadium around 1980. - White helmets need stripes. White helmets without stripes, like we wore during much of the Cavan era, look like giant eggs. - In most cases, helmets should match the pants. If you wear white helmets, you should wear white pants. - If we go with a blue home jersey, the road jersey should have red numerals, as someone else suggested. With red helmet pony and facemask, it gives the road uni a red-based look, contrasting with a blue-based home look. We currently have this effect in reverse - the home uni is dominated by the red jersey, while the blue trim really stands out on the road uni. Personally, I like our road unis better, but then I'm a blue guy. - We should go back to the 1980s look for a number of very important reasons. First of all, it just looks good. But secondly, it would resonate with the 40-something alumni who have no doubt become disenchanted with SMU athletics. Once the blue hairs die off, it will be this generation that supports SMU financially. Reach out to them before it's too late. Thirdly, a 1980s look would give us our own brand, instead of what Nike or addidas is shoving down our throat. So many teams are wearing the multi-colored panels and shoulder piping, it begins to look generic. The teams that stand out now are the ones that have stuck with a consistent look. Yes, recruits like to wear the latest uniform fashions, but if flashy uniforms meant anything the SWAC would have a team in the BCS title game every year. Uniforms catch the eye of recruits, but no player chooses or turns down a school just because of the uniform. As long as we don't wear something they would be embarrassed to be seen in, we're not going to lose any recruits because our unis aren't flashy enough. Bring back the 1980s look. It's classic and classy at the same time.
If you look at the schools who are outfitted by Adidas (Kansas, Notre Dame, A&M, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Arkansas) they are the antithesis of that Nike crap. No piping. No Panels. It would seem we are free to tell them exactly what we want.
Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!
Had a helmet conversation with somebody the other day. We talked about a return to the white helmet being the ideal. I did mention the possibility of a red helmet and white mustang. He said SMU would never do that-on TV, it would look too much like Arkansas.
Nothing against you or your friend, Blog, but they would not. Arkansas's root-hog is half the size of the Mustang and with a bunch of detail. The Mustang would be big & bold. They have white cages. We should have grey. Also see OU & Alabama.
And you know what, Georgia Tech's helmets look like ND's looks like Navy's looks like Army looks like BC, looks like Baylor looks like Colorado, looks like...you get my point. BTW, I like the pants, too. and I'm only in my 30's. ![]() ![]() ![]() Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!

Are you kidding? Everyone in the country would accuse us of ripping off Arkansas instantly. Nobody outside this board knows/cares that we used that design 50 years ago.
If Houston Nutt is coming to SMU, it would seem even MORE like the Mustangs are 'ripping off' Arky. ![]()
